About the Role:  

Rocket Travel, an online travel company, part of Booking Holdings (NASDAQ: BKNG) and closely-connected to its affiliate brand, Agoda, is looking for a Privacy Compliance Specialist or Privacy Counsel to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll report into Agoda’s Head of Data Privacy and Global Data Protection Officer based in Bangkok, Thailand, with a dotted line to Agoda’s Head of Legal for The Americas and Managing Counsel for Rocket Travel in New York City. You’ll work closely with Rocket Travel’s GRC and IT teams to build and further mature our privacy program and provide privacy advisory support to the commercial teams and the business overall. 

 

As a Privacy Compliance Specialist or Privacy Counsel, you will: 

  • Report into Agoda’s Data Privacy team, which is part of the Legal team, in connection with project managing, implementing and further maturing core components of the Rocket Travel privacy program to align with Agoda’s own privacy program. Responsibilities include facilitating records of processing activities, privacy impact assessments, vendor onboarding, data subject rights processes and employing the use of relevant tooling (e.g., OneTrust). 
  • Facilitate and maintain Rocket Travel’s privacy program on an ongoing basis, offering first line support and focusing on compliance with a recognized privacy framework (e.g., NIST) 
  • Work alongside:  
    • Agoda’s Bangkok-based Privacy team to carry out appropriate compliance with any and all applicable data privacy laws, including new US State privacy laws and other relevant jurisdictions. 
    • Rocket Travel’s Commercial and US-based Legal counsel, to provide contracting support for the privacy aspects of its business negotiations (e.g., DPAs). 
    • Rocket Travel’s GRC and IT teams, as well as with Agoda IT Security teams, to effectively drive and implement privacy compliance efforts on the ground, complete due diligence assessments and questionnaires for corporate partners/deals where business partners may wish to assess Rocket Travel’s privacy posture/program, and carrying out key privacy aspects of Rocket Travel’s partnering deals.
  • Provide privacy advice and support for Rocket Travel initiatives through privacy impact assessments, audits and related projects.
  • Promote a data privacy centric culture, where data protection is top of mind for products and services. 
  • Manage deadlines across projects/efforts. Things move quickly in our industry, so there will be short turnarounds for some work, and longer engagements for others. Time management, prioritization and balance will be key.
  • Be agile. We’re a collaborative global team and often wear many hats. Some projects may not be completely defined. Resourcefulness, organization and communication will be critical to drive results.

About you: 

  • You will have:  
    • Relevant experience with data privacy 
    • Comprehensive knowledge of current privacy laws, practices and privacy frameworks, e.g., the NIST privacy framework, privacy tools such as OneTrust and TrustArc. 
    • Relevant privacy certifications (e.g., CIPM, CIPP/US or CIPP/E or other relevant qualifications). 
  • For attorneys:  
    • A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school in good standing, to at least one State Bar (New York preferred).
    • 3+ years of relevant privacy counsel experience at a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department. 
  • Candidates with experience in travel, hospitality or other tech industries and as in-house counsel are preferred.  
  • The ability to navigate across two different companies, varying times zones and different teams, within both Rocket Travel and Agoda. 
  • Thrives working in a fast-paced, high pressure, entrepreneurial environment.
  • A team player with the ability to work and communicate effectively, collaboratively and cross-functionally.
  • Detail oriented, solutions focus and consistently organized.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
  • Some travel may be required, including between Agoda’s NYC and Rocket Travel’s Chicago offices, and possibly to Agoda’s Bangkok offices.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to get things done
