THE OPPORTUNITY

Roark is rapidly growing our in-house Data and Analytics team, with the goal of better leveraging advanced analytic solutions to make sound investment decisions and guide owned businesses to profitable growth. We believe analytics is a game-changer in the industries we operate in, and we are seeking a Data Analyst to help build and scale our impact. We are a fast-paced, entrepreneurial team – this role will be heavily project-based expected to balance quick turn, ad-hoc analytics with long-term solution design and build. This role will enjoy diverse learning experiences from assessing acquisition opportunities with our investment professionals to partnering with leadership teams at our many different owned businesses. The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience in project delivery, structured problem-solving, data collection & cleansing, analytics execution, and communication of meaningful insights to audiences of varying seniority and familiarity with analytic concepts.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to:

  • Partner with Roark’s investment professionals and leadership teams of owned businesses to solve complex problems through data analytics:
    • Understand the problem at hand and help structure the approach to solve it – what data is needed, how to get it, and how it should be analyzed and summarized
    • Gather, cleanse, analyze, visualize, and glean insights from data to answer strategic questions
    • Understand the business implications / actions of what the data says and what the next level questions will be and when / where to probe further
    • Ensure the highest quality of work by confirming numbers, sense-checking results, and quickly identifying mistakes
    • Clearly and concisely synthesize and communicate findings to make thoughtful recommendations by combining business savvy with analytic rigor
  • Work collaboratively on teams of Analytics professionals, Data Scientists, and Data Engineers to deliver the activities described above
    • Continually learn new concepts and methods in advanced analytics, statistics, data science, and AI/ML
  • Work across a breadth of analytic topics amongst diverse industries
    • Examples of analytic topics: pricing, marketing, forecasting, customer behavior, store performance, customer sentiment, spatial / geographic analytics, benchmarking / alternative data aggregation
    • Examples of industries: restaurants, retail, health & wellness, fitness, youth enrichment, services (B2C and B2B)
  • Serve as a resource / coach to the rest of Roark’s organization on analytic concepts and tools
  • Support visioning & execution of the team’s long-term strategy, including capabilities to build, technical infrastructure to use, and alternative datasets to gain proprietary insights
    • Keep up to date with the uses of data and analytics in private equity and our portfolio industries to continue improving our team’s capabilities and toolkit
  • This position is expected to be in-office to enjoy team collaboration and culture building

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline, preferably engineering, science, mathematics, or computer science
  • 1-2 years experience solving highly analytical business problems, preferably through professional services such as strategy consulting, investment banking, or private equity
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills with the ability to convert analytic solutions into business insights and actionable recommendations
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Ideal candidates will also possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience in Alteryx, Tableau, or PowerBI data analytics and visualization tools
  • Experience with SQL or Python coding, as well as high-level exposure to data science concepts (regression/classification, AI/ML, etc) is a plus
  • Industry experience related to restaurants, retail, or consumer services is a plus
  • Experience working on, or in partnership with, data science and engineering teams through software design and development is a plus
