Road to Hire is hiring a Student Career Coach to support the growing R2H College and Golden Door Scholars program(s). The primary focus of the Student Career Coach (SCC) is to effectively serve a caseload of current college students with coaching focused on academic persistence and career attainment.
The SCC coaches students to actively develop foundational skillsets, amplify what’s learned in college, and facilitate reflection on growth through experiences. Along the way, the SCC will help students access on-campus and other resources, prepare for internships, graduate from college, and secure employment on the way to high-paying careers.
The SCC tracks and records student progress in our database using both quantitative and qualitative data. SCCs are expected to build coaching skills while learning the Road to Hire College program model and expectations for supporting a caseload of students. Training and professional development in the SCC role is focused on the R2H curriculum and student services, as well as R2H student coaching fundamentals.
What You Will Do:
Direct Student Support - 70%
- Provide one-on-one guidance to a caseload of 70 - 120 college students. The range is dependent on levels of student needs on the caseload
- General Model:
- A high-touch support model of weekly/bi-weekly/monthly meetings with students via Zoom
- Create and facilitate individualized career development plans aligned to student profiles (ie. GPA, major, skill assessments)
- Example Coaching Topics: Self-advocacy, academic readiness, financial literacy, career readiness
- Maintain ongoing communication with all students on caseload
- Lead 30-minute meetings for approximately 40 students per week virtually at the Road to Hire offices in Fort Mill, SC, or other off-site locations throughout the region
- Respond to all student texts/calls/emails within 2 business days
- Develop individualized communication plans to ensure students remain engaged with the program and meet deadlines
- Coordinate monthly campus visits to universities that are within driving distance, planning impactful in-person events for your students that build community and meet our learning objectives
Caseload & Data Management – 20%
- Track and record student communication and progress in our database, using both quantitative and qualitative measures
- Ensure that proper documentation of grades and learning progress (ie. end of semester surveys, asynchronous learning milestones) are completed/submitted by students
- Enter data into the database within 3 business days of a student interaction or status change
- Maintain accurate student contact information in the student database
- Ensure that all students meet institutional and R2H deadlines (e.g. bill submission, grade submission, etc.)
- Manage scheduling for your assigned caseload, including, but not limited to:
- Schedule all student meetings on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis depending on the individual student’s level of need
- Manage time and calendar to meet minimum number of meetings per week and minimum number of meetings per student per year
- Align meetings to student process, ensuring adequate progress is being made and driving towards individual student deadlines
Program Support - 5%
- Support planning and staffing of College Program events, including but not limited to, student workshops, summer programming, and the core program events
- Support student recruitment, intake, and transition from the Road to High College Prep Program into College Program, which includes presenting at partner high schools and organizations
- Support additional projects or program needs, as assigned by manager
Organizational Support – 5%
- Support the R2H Development team by attending events, networking with guests/supporters, and providing event logistics as needed
- Represent the R2H brand in a positive light and take actions to increase brand awareness throughout the community

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time hybrid role based out of our South Charlotte office located at 1423 Red Ventures Drive, Fort Mill, SC.
The team is in the office weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and typically works remotely on Mondays and Fridays. On occasion, this role may require weekend or evening engagements.
What We’re Looking For
An ideal candidate for this role will be a self-starter with excellent organizational and communication skills who is excited to roll up their sleeves and engage in every element of our programs. This role involves building and maintaining deep relationships with students of many different backgrounds and experiences, engaging mentors and partners to support students wholeheartedly, and supporting students’ professional development. Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience working in higher education or recruiting, with a strong preference for individuals with case management experience. Experience in Career Counseling and Career Coaching is also strongly preferred.
The Student Career Coach will be a mission-driven individual with an acute eye for detail, a strong ability to take the initiative, comfort interacting with students in groups + individually, and confidence in balancing many priorities. This is a full-time role that may require occasional weekends or evenings.
- 2+ years of experience in higher education, ideally career counseling/student coaching or campus recruiting
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to quickly build trust with students
- Experience case managing at least 50-55 students with proven methods for success
- Passionate about and strongly aligned with Road to Hire’s core beliefs and educational philosophy; excited to create employment opportunities for underserved young adults
- Strong ability to set deadlines for themselves as well as for projects
- Accountable team player with exceptional communication skills and strong organizational skills
- Strong collaborative skills with a desire to work on projects with teammates
- Strong self-starter who is comfortable working autonomously
- Desire to work hands-on in a performance-based, analytically-driven, and fast-paced environment while displaying confidence and a professional presence
Compensation
- The salary range for this position is $52,000 - $55,000
- Actual salary is based on qualifications and experience.
