Road to Hire is looking to add a Technical Instructor that will lead and facilitate a curriculum designed to teach motivated, young adults computer science and coding skills. The Technical Instructor will manage the classroom, coordinate the activities of several volunteers, grade, and assist in the day-to-day tasks of running the Apprenticeship program. Technical Instructors play a critical role in filling gaps and challenges identified by the Program Manager. This person will also be responsible for continuing to improve their technical and professional development skills through continued learning and technical coding projects.  

Additionally, the Technical Instructor should be motivated by the opportunity to develop and create opportunities for unemployed and underemployed young adults in our community.

What You’ll Do:

  • Teach core tech competencies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node, AWS, SQL, Testing, and other modern web programming technologies to young adults.
  • Advise and mentor apprentices.
  • Assess instructional effectiveness and conduct training impact evaluations; be open to constructive criticism and constant curriculum improvement.
  • Provide feedback on and updates to the curriculum.
  • Manage classroom logistics such as, managing attendance, grading, preparing the weekly schedule, leading continued learning sessions, coordinating volunteer activities, overseeing the development of participants in the program, etc.
  • Collect data of apprentices' performance to help improve the program. 
  • Conduct bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with several apprentices.

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong knowledge of the Apprenticeship program’s tech stack
  • Results Driver that has the aptitude to make real-time decisions, measure results and change course when necessary
  • Accountable team player with exceptional communication skills and authority with MS Office
  • Growth Mindset with the ability to identify gaps/challenges and develop specific accountability/support plans to keep students on track for program completion
  • Strong relationship-building skills; ability to quickly build trust with a wide variety of different stakeholders
  • Comfortable working autonomously
  • Willing to come in person at least 3 days a week
  • Has an aptitude for making real-time decisions, measuring results and changing course when necessary
  • Passionate about creating employment opportunities for underserved young adults

Compensation:

  • Cash Compensation Range: $60,000-$70,000*
    *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
