Role Summary
The Senior Safety Engineer will be involved with the design and specifications for new machinery and equipment for engineering & manufacturing sites. You will also be an active participant in equipment acceptance testing and commissioning as well as evaluating proposed changes to equipment and machinery for safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Work with engineering, operations, and equipment vendors for design and commissioning activities
- Develop equipment safety standards where needed and continuously improve existing standards
- Complete risk assessments in accordance with ISO 12100 and Rivian standards
- Conduct equipment safety buy-offs with a cross-functional team
- Identify opportunities and suggest corrective actions for continuous improvement
- Create and deliver training related to equipment and machinery safety
- Work with department EHS staff to support the shop as needed
- Participate in learning teams, investigations, inspections, audits, etc. as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in ABET accredited Engineering program
- 1-3 applicable years of experience related to the qualifications of the position
- Competent skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Autodesk AutoCad
- Automated manufacturing experience in high volume facility
- Experience with ANSI, UL, NFPA, ISO and other applicable standards
- Experience interpreting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic safety circuits and evaluating performance level & circuit structure
- Working knowledge of hazardous area classifications, occupancy classification, hazardous material inventories
- Competent skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Autodesk AutoCad
- Requires up to 50% travel for this role, domestic & international travel
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
