Role Summary:
Rivian Electrical R&D are the backbone of GSD (Getting Stuff Done!) for our Hardware teams. Rivian is continuing to integrate major electrical systems and components and rapidly growing vertically. Responsibilities:
- Perform finite element based analysis on a variety of electronics packaging and structural design challenges accounting for shock, drop, vibration, fatigue, environmental sealing, and other requirements.
- Provide detailed and actionable material selection and mechanical design suggestions to engineers responsible for detail design of vehicle electronics.
- Define and support best practices for how CAE can be used in the electronics development process.
- Develop strategies for optimizing mechanical components for minimizing mass and material usage.
- Coordinate and work with other analysts across other departments to coordinate analysis methodologies and design constraints
- Own and drive material characterization and testing to support modeling efforts
- Work in multidisciplinary teams and drive product and engineering excellence
- Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the position
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters or PhD preferred.
- Deep understanding of mechanics of materials, dynamics, vibration, linear and non-linear simulation methodologies
- Strong grasp of failure analysis methodologies and experience with product reliability and validation procedures.
- 5+ years of experience in performing non-linear dynamic and static finite element analysis
- Experience with 3D CAD, CAE, and PLM systems.
- Experience developing and leading other multidisciplinary engineers
- Excellent communication skills across all functions and levels
- Experience in performing similar analyses to support electronics and structural product development.
- Excellent documentation practices
- Fluent written and spoken English
Salary range for California based applicants: $150,000 - $173,000 (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).
