Summary:

This role is for a battery cell quality engineer that has experience with cell design, materials and manufacturing that will be able to liaison for Rivian working with a cell OEM in China on short term assignments helping to ensure quality elements of the design and quality processes for cell manufacturing. Lithium Iron Phosphate background is a bonus. Bilingual English & Chinese is important. Korean fluency will also be considered.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee design quality of battery cells and support technical requirements flow down to external suppliers
• Develop cell quality standards from component/material level through manufacturing processes
• Participate in Design for Manufacturability reviews and provide feedback to support continuous improvement
o Drive design sensitivity to manufacturing processes and contribute to engineering design specifications to deliver product quality
• Collaborate with cell suppliers and battery pack assembly integrators to develop full lifecycle quality planning o Embedded onsite with suppliers for short term assignments to support product & process quality continuous improvement
o Drive design and manufacturing quality of battery cells
o Lead advanced causal analysis and problem-solving response to cell quality issues impacting production
o Plan and conduct supplier process and product audits in collaboration with Supplier Quality and 3rd party
• Review cell defects conducting component level analysis identifying material and process issues
• Establish internal process flows for incoming inspection and reaction plans for nonconforming material • Determine, track, and deliver key KPI’s to achieve quality targets and goals
• Participate in product launch initiatives to meet timing and quality milestones
• Ensure product and process designs deliver high capability using DFMEA, PFMEA in conjunction with Reliability
• Drive Prediction, Prevention, and Protection of quality issues and risk mitigation solutions
• Collaborate with other members of the engineering staff to support both project and internal R&D efforts

Qualifications:
• BS/MS degree in Materials Engineering or other related engineering discipline • Minimum of 3 years engineering and/or quality experience including:
o Cell design, manufacturing, testing, quality planning, and supplier technical engagement
• Extensive knowledge of lithium ion battery engineering including material selection and issue resolution
• Basic CAD knowledge, including ability to review designs within CATIA
• Strong statistical and problem-solving capability, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Preferred
• Experience transitioning R&D products transition to production
• Knowledge of AIAG, APQP and related tools
• Demonstrated quality improvements through use of structured problem solving
• Experience working in a cross functional environment
• Ability to collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing / production environment
• Bilingual with the ability to speak, read and write in both English and either Chinese or Korean
• Significant International Travel Time Expected
