Responsibilities

  • Lead Battery Control System (BCS) sub-system architecture development for different vehicle programs and HV battery variants, including HV and LV system architecture, HV Control and Safety switchgear, sensoring architecture, system integration solutions, PCBA functional architecture and requirements.
  • Lead functional safety analysis for the control architecture to comply with ISO-26262 standard and other automotive safety standards.
  • Lead BCS sub system critical component sizing analysis, including switching, fusing, sensing components as well as PCBA components; support electrical engineers and component DREs on critical component selection and detail design.
  • Lead planning of different phases of BCS architecture and hardware design; as well as reporting the progress/status to management team.
  • Lead advanced technology investigation, evaluation, and proof of concept development to define the roadmap of Rivian future generation BCS.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of work experience in HV Battery and/or EV powertrain system.
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline.
  • Solid knowledge of battery behavior, battery safety and battery control.
  • Previous hands-on experience with design according to ISO 26262, especially part 4/5.
  • Previous experience with DFMEA and FTA for system/HW.
  • Previous experience in HV control architecture design; detailed understanding of mechanical design, failure mode and effect of switching, fusing and sensing component; knowledge of specification, validation and system integration of such components; capable of modeling analysis for the system components is a plus.
  • Previous experience in BMS PCBA architecture, schematic design and validations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; Strong communication, multitasking, interpersonal skills, presentation and technical writing.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in automotive product development environments, familiar with development process, product launches and production schedules
  • Experience with system requirement development from the ground up, using systematic engineering analysis
  • Holistic understanding of thermal and electrical interdependence in battery pack design
  • Familiar with state of the art micro controllers and other critical BMS ICs application (e.g. performance, resources, built-in diagnostic and safety mechanism); detailed understanding of how HW selection and design will impact BCS functionality and performance.
  • Capable of electrical analysis using circuit design and simulation tools (e.g. Pspice, SimScape, etc.)
  • Versed with automated requirements management tools (e.g. JAMA, Doors, etc.) and issue tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.).
