In this position you will have current and past model responsibility for driving quality improvements for Rivian products.  You will lead the efforts to reduce warranty and improve attributes on the vehicles.   This will be achieved by clearly defining the Problem Statement, implementing Interim Containment, determining the Root Cause, and verifying that the Permanent Corrective Action truly resolves the issue – working in conjunction with the Product Design & Release Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Suppliers.   The Product Excellence Engineer will support the core team to ensure the vehicle exceeds the defined attribute targets and will develop recovery plans for those attributes that are not achieving target.


  • Work with multiple groups and teams with diverse backgrounds 
  • Lead Cross-Functional teams while addressing warranty concerns and attribute error states 
  • Be responsible one of the following systems: Propulsion (Gear Box / Driveline / Motors / Cooling), Low Voltage (Wiring / Sensors / Software), High Voltage (HV Battery / HV Cables / Inverters), Automated Driving Assist Systems / Adaptive Cruise Control 
  • Identify & Resolve Internal Failures and External Warranty by developing work streams to resolve top issues 
  • Provide technical understanding of issues and potential attribute impact 
  • Provide status on investigations and containments 
  • Validate effectiveness of product changes 
  • Drive structured problem solving using the Rivian 5 process 
  • Drive warranty return reduction 
  • Support field campaign reviews and actions 


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering 
  • Demonstrated prior work experience relevant to this position 
  • Incredible interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence cross functional teams 
  • 3-9 years of Automotive Experience, a combination of Design & Release, Program Management, or Quality experience desired 
  • 6 Sigma/DMAIC or Shainin Red-X a plus 
  • Great communication skills with a wide variety of personnel 
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and assist repair teams in diagnosing issues 
  • Fundamental understanding of quality systems and its development, documentation and implementation to standards or requirements 
  • Able to plan, control and assure product and process quality in accordance with quality principles, which include planning processes, material control, acceptance sampling and measurement systems 
  • Basic knowledge of reliability and risk management, including key terms and definitions, modeling, systems design, assessment tools and reporting 
  • Can acquire and analyze data using appropriate standard quantitative methods to facilitate issues analysis and investigations 
  • Act as liaison between manufacturing and product development and leading continuous quality improvements 
  • Lead the workstreams necessary to meet both internal and external quality objectives
