Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility of performing Durability simulation of vehicle structures using finite element tools such as Abaqus, Nastran, n-Code Design Life, ANSA and HyperView/META
  • Through knowledge in Stiffness, Strength and Fatigue & optimization of vehicle structure.
  • Through knowledge in the performance of the different Steel, Aluminum and Composite materials.
  • Carryout static and fatigue analysis of closures structures. Expertise transient dynamic fatigue, non-linear static analysis, stiffness simulations.
  • Develop CAE methods and process for solving engineering problems and provide the engineering enablers for improving the performance
  • Challenge established traditional CAE methods and process to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Setting up the sub-system and vehicle level performance attributes.
  • Should be able to lead engineers with similar expertise, preferred with team leading expertise.
  • Interpret simulation results to design engineers and suggest feasible design changes for to ensure component, system, and vehicle level targets are met
  • Provide input in the creation of component specification, component DFMEA, and other technical design documents where analysis plays a pivotal role.
  • Perform analysis for feasibility for manufacturing, assembly and service processes.
  • Cooperate with design release engineers and suppliers to collect pertinent material properties, connection information, and relevant modeling information for analysis
  • Participate in meshing and connecting parts based on the necessities of the team
  • Participate in developing analysis procedures for durability load cases and benchmarking
  • Preparing formal reports to the leadership team and address all the RCR’s
  • Support physical testing through setup and instrumentation selection as well as processing and interpreting results to identify issues and make recommendations
  • Collaborate with program management, systems engineering, manufacturing, studio, and other development teams

Qualifications

  • BS + 10 years, MS+ 8 years or PhD+5 in mechanical engineering or similar field
  • Proficiency in using ANSA/ Hypermesh, Hyperview/METApost, Abaqus, n-Code, and Ls-Dyna software.
  • Expertise with application in the Linear/ Non-Linear static, Transient dynamic, Random Vibration fatigue of automotive structures is required
  • Strong academic background in mechanics of materials and in-depth knowledge of stress failure theory, buckling and fatigue theory, materials, and structural analysis.
  • Experience with closures (side doors, tailgate, lift gate, hood) components and vehicle systems
  • Experience of preparing formal reports summarizing analysis results.
  • Excellent root cause and problem-solving skills in automotive durability.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teambuilding skill
  • Should be able to lead engineers with similar expertise, preferred with team leading expertise.
  • Support engineering teams with design direction based on your analyses
  • Should have worked at least 2 full vehicle level programs from morph to production meeting all the durability on-road and off-road requirements along with cross functional requirements.
