Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
We operate development centers in Plymouth, Michigan; Southern California (Irvine, Carson & LA); Silicon Valley (San Jose and Palo Alto); Vancouver, British Columbia; and Surrey, England; as well as a manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois.
Rivian’s growing Corporate Communications team seeks a Technology Communications Manager to connect current and future Rivian owners with Rivian’s design and engineering story. This position will also help to drive media engagement around the deployment of Rivian’s charging network- taking journalists deep into our charging technology and market differentiation. This position is based in Irvine, CA; relocation is provided, and we encourage applicants from other locations to apply.
-This new position is Rivian’s first Technology Communications hire, and has potential for growth. You’ll need to be deeply comfortable speaking with engineers and technology media, translating complex material for a wide audience, and teasing out the human side of narratives around charging, software, and the thousands of decisions involved in building a high-performance product at a sustainability-driven company.
-You’ll envision thoughtful technology narratives that marry our commitments to high performance, safety and quality.
-You’ll maintain rich relationships with technology media.
-With a cross-functional team, you’ll explore Rivian’s ambitious stewardship goals and in time, help to stand up stewardship communications.
-You’ll track perception of our engineering, charging, and energy projects over time and will never stop looking for opportunities to represent our team and products authentically.
Preferred experience and traits:
-Experience in science, environmental, engineering, energy storage, or related public relations or communications work.
-A real love of technology and an understanding of the ways in which it shapes our experiences and affects our world. The desire and humility to learn new things.
-Excitement around being part of a lean, disciplined, high-responsibility comms team.
-An interest in people, in complexity, and in storytelling.
-A focus on bringing warmth, fun and inclusiveness to media and customer interactions with our technology.
-Fully developed writing and communication skills.
-Listening skills. You’ll need to take time to learn about Rivian, to minimize “I,” and to think and act as part of a team.
