Department Description

Drug Product Development group (part of the GSK Research and Development division) is responsible for developing robust drug product formulations and manufacturing processes for small and large molecule drug products.

 

This position is in the Medicine Development and Supply department, located at the Upper Providence site.


Job Description

The Lyophilization Process Development Co-op student will be part of a team developing fundamental understanding of lyophilization for injectable formulations, with a particular emphasis on suspensions. 

 

Key learning opportunities include:

  • Use pharmaceutical formulation, engineering, and materials science knowledge of colloidal science to inform the design of novel and robust lyophilized drug products.
  • Work closely with the process modelling team members to use computational modelling approaches to support lyophilization process development according to Quality by Design principles.
  • Regularly update manager on progress made on research topic and document results / analysis in reports.
  • Comply with GMP requirements for recording experiments and simulation files, and writing reports, including scientific review and data checking.
  • Comply with the requirements of Quality, Safety, and GSK policies and procedures to ensure that GSK intellectual property is protected.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a PhD degree in Pharmaceutics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent experience (preferably in the second or third year of PhD).
  • Knowledge of lyophilization cycle development.
  • Hands on experience working on freeze drying of solutions or suspensions.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 6-month co-op (September 2024 ~ March 2025).
  • Must have an active student status within a PhD program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of lyophilization optimization equipment, such as tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy
  • Basic experience in model development using modelling packages such as Matlab, gPROMS, Python or similar
