Essential Duties:
Assist in the discovery and development of stable optical and phase change materials through approaches such as high-throughput density functional theory, molecular dynamics, and machine learning. Work independently, follow detailed instructions, and suggest improvements to existing models. Position will require frequent technical communication with team members, including oral and written reporting. Run density functional theory, molecular dynamics and other materials simulations. Analyze computed results and experimental measurements. Build predictive models.
Required Skills:
- Applicant should have experience with programming (e.g., Python), Unix command line, and familiarity with solid-state materials theory/computation via codes such as VASP and LAMMPS.
- Familiarity with emerging computational frameworks such as JAX and current literature/datasets related to machine-learned potentials.
- Specialization in simulating crystalline to amorphous phase transitions.
Required Education:
Graduate or exceptional upper-division undergraduate student currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of performing extended analysis at computer workstations.
Special Requirements:
U.S. Person status required (US citizen or green card).
Compensation:
The pay range for this position $32 - $60 per hour.
