JOB PURPOSE

Pattern Energy is excited to hire our summer 2024 Interns! Pattern’s Summer Internship Program gives undergraduate and graduate students hands-on experience to develop technical skills, as well as a better understanding of the renewable industry. This internship program will run for approximately 10-12 weeks and include a formal welcome, mentorship opportunities, executive exposure and some travel. This is one way that Pattern Energy supports the larger renewable community and invests in the next generation of great minds.

 

Assist the project manager on the development of new utility-scale wind and solar projects in Southwest Illinois, in particular: 

  • The Shoals (500 MW wind, 500 MW solar)
  • Kaskaskia (500 MW wind, 500 MW solar)
  • Kaskaskia 2 (500 MW solar)
  • Western Gate (500 MW wind, 500 MW solar) 

In addition, the summer intern will assist in conducting market research in the region to assist in the identification and evaluation of investment opportunities for new development projects. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Support all development workstreams with a focus on advancing land acquisition and stakeholder engagement / community outreach
  • Other development workstreams include environmental & permitting (research local and state permitting requirements), equipment procurement, early engineering and pre-construction, electric transmission, energy sale, government affairs (the intern will coordinate with subject matter experts on each of these teams)
  • Establish milestones for specific development tasks and track progress
  • Coordinate and help run weekly team meetings
  • Support project budgeting and cost forecasting activities
  • Maintain the SharePoint site
  • Assist in preparation of internal management presentations to justify investment
  • Participate fully in Pattern provided educational enrichment efforts 

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

Educational Requirements

  • Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proficient with Power Point, Word, SharePoint, and Excel
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal/communication, and leadership skills 
  • Willingness to travel to Pattern offices (and potentially other limited travel to project area)
  • Preference for candidates with a connection to Southwest Illinois (or the broader region)

This position will commence in late May – early June through August 2024.
