Product & Design Consultant

India (Remote)

Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) is a US-based, global public health organization with a mission to prevent 100 million deaths from heart disease and to make the world safer from epidemics. Since 2017, Resolve to Save Lives has partnered with low-and middle-income country governments, multilateral agencies, academic and other civil society partners, and communities to implement policies and programs to treat and control hypertension, reduce sodium intake, eliminate artificial trans fats, and strengthen systems for epidemic prevention. 

The Digital Team at RTSL is implementing or helping to implement cutting-edge digital tools such as the Simple app, DHIS2 and Africa Covid Dashboard. We work with national and regional health organizations to accelerate progress and advancing the use of digital technologies to save lives through our approach of simplicity, speed, and scale.

Position Purpose

This role is an independent contractor (IC) role in the Cardiovascular Health (CVH) team to cover for the Product and Design Lead’s personal leave of absence from the organisation. A key pillar of CVH’s hypertension program is information systems. The tech team’s goal is for every patient in large-scale hypertension control programs to be managed with great digital tools - practical tools that healthcare workers love to use, which generate excellent data for health program managers to make rational interventions. As an IC, you will support the product and design team to expand the world of great digital tools for hypertension management by applying user-centered design practices, prioritizing problems to solve for and improving design across public health projects. The IC reports into the Sr. Vice President (SVP) – Digital at RTSL.

Location and Duration

This is a remote role open to candidates based in India. The estimated duration of this consultancy is 12 months. The expected start date is no later than 2 June 2025.

Scope of Work

  • Advise on strategic direction and support the product and design team.  
  • Support the product, design and research efforts on Simple, technical assistance on custom systems and open-source systems (e.g. DHIS2). This also means hands-on design in Figma, scoping product problems, choosing the right problems to apply research, prototyping tools and productizing our technical assistance work. 
  • Support the SVP Digital on product strategy and communication.  
  • Review progress against the OKRs set for 2025 and review year-end outcomes (including planning for 2026) 
  • Work closely with our Chief Medical Officer, engineering and program team to build a collaborative roadmap, set priorities based on OKRs and help in ensuring product development timelines are met. Translate program goals into specific requirements for product development or technical assistance.  
  • Guidance on end-to-end product lifecycle and delivery. Work with the SVP Digital and engineering lead, track progress against product plans and resolve challenges as they come up.

Contract Deliverables

The expected deliverables of the consultant include:

  • Inputs into product strategy and roadmap 
  • Inputs on OKRs and review on progress 
  • Product, Design and Research Inputs (in the form of documents, presentations, etc.) 
  • Development of any specific product/design documentation 
  • Inputs on costs/budgets and resource estimates for product/design work

Contract management

The Independent Contractor will submit all deliverables to the Sr. Vice President (SVP) - Digital, who will manage this contract and monitor progress towards deliverables.

Qualifications

Experience

  • At least ten years of experience in product management and design  
  • Experience leading product and design teams (product managers, designers, user researchers) working on challenging problems 
  • Experience managing user research 
  • Experience of dealing with external stakeholders, ideally including Governments 
  • Strong skills in product management, understanding user research and its real-life application in building tools. 
  • Strong collaboration skills in a multi-country remote working environment 
  • Executive presence to engage with internal and external stakeholders as a consultant, with strong communication skills (written and oral) 
  • Experience in Public Health is a plus but not essential 

Other

  • This role may require some travel to countries of RTSL’s programs
