Relay Graduate School of Education seeks a Licensure Exam Prep Content Expert Tutor, Multilingual to support teacher candidates preparing for teacher licensure exams covering core subjects content and content pedagogy required for specific endorsement areas. The Content Expert Tutor will work closely with Relay’s licensure exam preparation department to support candidates in our educator preparation programs across the country by providing data-driven, individualized support to teacher candidates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Support (4-6 hrs per week)

  • Prepare for (e.g., send calendar invites and email reminders, gather study resources and/or practice items, create agendas, etc.) and host up to six 1:1 hour long tutoring sessions per week to teach content, review practice items, create personalized study plans, and make referrals to study resources aligned to elementary education multi-subject exams / secondary math exams / secondary science / english language arts / social studies exams
  • Analyze candidate data on score reports, practice items, and diagnostic exams, using data to adjust instruction during tutoring sessions as needed
  • Become intimately familiar with the licensure exams you are assigned to support (e.g., Praxis Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (5001), NYSTCE Mathematics (004) exam, Praxis General Science (5436), TExES English Language Arts and Reading 7–12 (231), etc.)
  • Create a culturally responsive and welcoming environment in 1:1 settings, demonstrating respect for candidates’ diverse backgrounds and experiences and establishing positive relationships with candidates throughout tutoring
  • Guide teacher candidates in cultivating growth mindsets, self-efficacy, and self-directed learning practices as they prepare for their licensure exams
  • Utilize active listening and questioning strategies to further diagnose needs and monitor progress

Professional Development (1-2 hrs per week)

  • Participate in onboarding and professional development opportunities with Relay’s licensure assessment preparation department to improve tutoring skills, grow cultural competencies, and utilize feedback and reflection
  • Share resources used in tutoring sessions and provide feedback on tutoring protocols and structures to the licensure exam preparation department

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid initial-level teaching certificate in special education/ elementary education / secondary math education / secondary science education / english language arts / social studies education
  • Multilingual (Spanish) or Expertise in Employing MLL Strategies to support Relay students who are multilingual learners is preferred
  • At least 2 years of work experience as a certified elementary teacher / secondary math teacher / secondary science teacher / english language arts teacher / social studies teacher
  • Strong grasp of the content area 
  • Experience teaching or facilitating professional development for adult learners in an online environment preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Alignment with Relay’s mission
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. 

COMPENSATION

Relay is committed to creating and maintaining a compensation and benefits system that supports our ability to recruit and retain a diverse and talented team. As we make decisions about compensation, we will be guided by the following values: clarity, consistency, and internal equity. This role is paid at a rate of $30 per hour. To ensure internal pay equity:

  • Relay does not currently differentiate starting salary offers based on years of experience
  • Relay does not negotiate salary offers
