Reporting to the President, the CGO will serve as an active member of Relay’s Executive Leadership Team, responsible for the institution’s growth strategy and revenue. The CGO will oversee team members in Marketing and Communications and will manage a sales team focused on relationship management and new business development. Partnering with and coordinating across various teams, the CGO will define and drive an ambitious growth strategy focused on growing Relay’s revenue beyond $50 million in annual revenue while advancing Relay’s mission of ensuring all students are taught by outstanding educators.
The Chief Growth Officer will
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the educator preparation and professional education landscape, including national and regional market needs and trends, to inform Relay’s growth trajectory and an effective partnerships strategy.
- Create a sales function and partnership retention strategy to cultivate, onboard, and retain key partners in pursuit of our revenue.
- Establish processes and structures to measure and ensure the success of Relay’s existing and new partnerships, including key performance indicators, revenue targets, and other strategic goals.
- Support and develop team members and other Relay leaders and personnel in their capacity to execute Relay’s partnership and sales strategy.
- Maintain an understanding of Relay’s financial landscape and collaborate closely with key finance personnel in aligning and prioritizing revenue, impact on program budgets, and staffing.
Change Leadership and Management
- Provide executive leadership for vision setting, planning, goal setting, and decision-making associated with partnerships, sales, and external marketing and communications in the service of Relay’s revenue generation strategy.
- Establish cross-team pathways and organizational culture to support collaboration on delivery of Relay’s revenue generation plan including Teacher Preparation and Professional Education programs.
Marketing and External Communications
- Manage and enhance Relay’s brand strategy within the field of educator preparation and professional learning.
- Lead the team in delivering on marketing and sales and communication strategies aligned to Relay’s mission, core values, strategy, and program models.
Collaboration
- Partner with other Executive Leadership Team members in Finance and Innovation to set and drive toward institutional vision, priorities, goals, and benchmarks.
- Support strategic advocacy efforts at the federal, state, and local levels to advance Relay’s vision and mission by aligning revenue strategy with the Vice President of Government Affairs’ goals.
- Collaborate with the key members of the Relay team to ensure alignment with government engagement, policy initiatives, and philanthropy goals.
- Develop a deep understanding of Relay programs and establish a collaborative cadence with the Provost of Teacher Preparation and the Chief Professional Learning Officer to drive informed decision-making and ensure cohesion across Relay’s offerings to achieve successful revenue growth.
Qualifications
First and foremost, the Chief Growth Officer must share the Relay community’s commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. Additionally, for this position Relay is looking for candidates who possess a combination of the following skills:
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience with significant experience at the senior executive level focused on sales, business development, revenue generation.
- Proven skills and a track record in cultivating and managing revenue-generating partnerships (of at least $30 million per year) within or across philanthropic, public, or earned revenue streams, aligned with organizational goals and values, including team management.
- Demonstrated change management competencies with a track record of establishing pathways for cross-functional collaboration and effective leadership of people and systems.
- Experience leading a team in management of an organizational brand and aligned marketing efforts including serving as representative for Relay in relationships with key external stakeholders.
- Adaptability and other key leadership competencies.
- A demonstrated passion for education and closing the opportunity gap.
- Experience with educator preparation programs, educator professional development programs, or other relevant experience strongly preferred.

Compensation
Relay is committed to creating and maintaining a compensation and benefits system that supports its ability to recruit and retain a diverse and talented team. As Relay makes decisions about compensation, it will be guided by the following values: clarity, consistency, and internal equity. The salary range for this role is $183,476 to $275,212. New hires will be offered a salary of $227,200. To ensure internal pay equity:
- New hires are not eligible for a salary at the high end of the role’s salary range;
- All staff salaries will be capped at the salary range maximum; and
- Relay does not negotiate salary offers.
