About This Role

Reporting to the Director of Electrical Systems, the Electrical Systems (ES) Manager (FPGA) will be part of a team of talented Electrical Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers in radiotherapy treatment delivery, planning and medical imaging. The ES Manager is responsible for the design and architecture of RefleXion’s x86, ARM and Xilinx MPSoC embedded computing platforms and the implementation of FPGA firmware. On a daily basis the ES Manager leads a team of FPGA and firmware developers and oversees their architectural and implementation effort. The ES Manager is responsible for technical documentation, requirements and purchase specifications for any (sub-)systems that might be outsourced to third-party designers or consultants.

This position will suit a technically savvy and collaborative individual who thrives on solving complex problems in embedded systems and FPGA design and enjoys learning about how things work and challenging the status quo to improve the design, efficiency, and existing processes. A successful ES Manager has good collaboration skills to work with a multi-disciplinary team of hardware & software engineers, product managers, manufacturing teams, and service engineers to support the development and troubleshooting of the embedded systems for the RefleXion System. The ES Manager will also engage on any issue necessary to ship products to customers of the highest quality and reliability.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Manage a team of Electrical Engineers who design and build the FPGA firmware, device drivers, and Embedded Computers (x86 and ARM) for RefleXion’s biology-guided radiotherapy system.
  • Define architecture and support FPGA IP implementation in VHDL, Verilog, SystemC, and/or High-Level Synthesis
  • Work with designs with computing platforms with computing elements such as CPUs, GPUs, memory, and disks, Work on existing designs and develop future-generation computing platforms.
  • Perform bring-up, debug, and validation of FPGA and PCBA designs to achieve functional and performance goals.
  • Understanding different layers of real-time operating systems (RTOS), like bootloaders, board support packages (BSP), and kernels, and how the choice of platform will affect the system.
  • Responsible for defining, implementing, and verifying end-to-end embedded systems requirements and architecture.
  • Partner closely with consultants, vendors, and third-party design services for timely delivery of (sub-)systems
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional hardware, mechanical engineering, (embedded) software engineering, radiation sensing, product management, and manufacturing teams.
  • Continuously drive process improvements and introduce innovative concepts and ideas leading to an increase in the efficiency of the product development pipeline
  • Provide technical and professional coaching to the Embedded Systems team-members
  • Release design changes using Engineering Change Orders.
  • Write and review engineering specifications and design descriptions at the product and subsystem levels.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Where You Will Do This Job  

  • Hybrid - This position will allow the successful candidate to work on a Hybrid work location schedule. They must be based in the greater SF Bay Area and must be able to commute into the RefleXion office in Hayward 1-4 days a week, depending on the role.

What We Need

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and/or 7+ years of industry experience
  • Expert knowledge of developing high-speed FPGAs logic and evaluating trade-offs between speed, area, (pipeline) efficiency and timing closure for Xilinx FPGAs.
  • Strong Electrical Engineering fundamentals with demonstrated knowledge or experience in areas such as digital logic designs and analog/digital interfaces.
  • Knowledge of implementing and configuring high-speed interfaces like PCIe, 10/25Gbe Ethernet, JESD204b, DDR4.
  • Knowledge of computer architectures, MPSoCs, hardware interfaces, (real-time) operating systems
  • Ability to manage engineering teams and success in collaborating with cross-functional teams and project management ensuring timely delivery of new product features.
  • Excellent communication (written, oral), presentation, and documentation skills.

The pay range for this role is $145,000 - $265,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor. The total compensation package for this position may also include bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable variable compensation.
