Description

The Staff Software Systems Engineer works as part of a team of talented software developers in radiotherapy treatment delivery, planning and medical imaging. The Engineer will lead cross-functional teams to define system requirements, perform risk assessment and define risk controls, and define system integration and test plans covering software applications and embedded systems platforms for the RefleXion radiotherapy system.

In addition to expertise in application and embedded systems development, the position requires some technical understanding of medical imaging, motion controls and medical device software development best-practices. The Engineer works closely with Product Engineering and Hardware engineers to understand system requirements and with Regulatory and Quality Assurance teams to understand process requirements. The Engineer understands medical device quality systems and design control, including specification, software risk analysis, and formal testing. He or she engages on any and every issue necessary to ship products to customers of the highest quality and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a technical leader within the RefleXion software development team
  • Completes early stage research/prototyping work to establish feasibility and clinical value
  • Writes and reviews engineering specifications for software and algorithms
  • Leads formal software risk analysis and identifies and implements mitigations
  • Leads system integration projects to bring together multiple subsystems to ensure proper system operation and realization of system requirements
  • Supports the design and implement product software and algorithms
  • Leads architecture, design, and code reviews
  • Supports system software verification and validation testing sufficient to support all required 510(k) submissions and clearance
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or commensurate industry experience
  • 10+ years software development experience with at least 3+ years of system software development
  • Programming expertise in C++
  • Strong background in core computer science concepts with a deep understanding of robust software engineering processes including automated regression testing and continuous integration
  • Experience with real-time operating systems or other embedded real-time frameworks
  • Strong understanding of medical device design control concepts
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization
  • A passion for creating robust and reliable products
  • Preferred qualifications
    • Experience with standards such as IEC and DICOM
    • Experience in Radiation Therapy industry
    • Experience with modern web development technologies
    • Experience with document driven NoSQL databases, e.g., MongoDB or CouchDB
    • Working knowledge of Python and Unix scripting
    • Some knowledge of motion controls and medical imaging
