Staff Industrial Engineer   

Redwood Materials is in search of a self-motivated and enthusiastic Layout Design Engineer who will contribute to the development of layout designs for new and expanded manufacturing lines. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of Industrial Engineering principles and proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software. The ability to solve problems through first principles analysis and employ effective design optimization is crucial. The position offers the flexibility to work remotely or be based in Reno/Sparks, NV.  

The team is responsible for creating a factory design that facilitates seamless integration between production, material flow, construction, and facilities teams. We value innovation and expect candidates to have a detailed comprehension of high-level factory objectives, as well as collaborate extensively with internal and external teams responsible for designing specific factory components. This collaborative effort ensures that the overall factory design achieves all of Redwood's objectives.

Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, organizational proficiency, and a team-oriented mindset are essential. The candidate should possess the ability to approach ambiguous problems from a systems perspective and apply logical reasoning to develop models that drive optimal factory design.  

Responsibilities will include:  

  • Utilize Revit and AutoCAD software to optimize space allocation for production lines and supporting functions. 
  • Collaborate with process, manufacturing, operations, and infrastructure engineering teams to establish efficient flow paths and determine appropriate aisle sizing for products, raw materials, and work in progress. 
  • Resolve conflicts related to space utilization by conducting data-driven analyses and facilitating discussions among stakeholders.  
  • Support data-driven decision-making processes for factory layout by providing relevant information and insights.  
  • Design and optimize layouts for production support areas to enhance safety, density, and flow.  
  • Gather input from internal teams to understand building requirements over time and in relation to capacity. Redwood Materials  
  • Work with external equipment vendors to define installation, operation, and maintenance requirements for production equipment, ensuring seamless integration within the factory. 
  • Utilize Revit and other 3D modeling software to visualize and allocate space in three dimensions.  
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of factory layout concepts, considering tradeoffs and quantifying their impact.  
  • Deliver presentations and updates on factory layout progress to the executive team during steering meetings.  
  • Compile and manage schedules, tracking milestones for space allocations aligned with programmatic targets.  

Desired Qualifications   

  • Possess over 5 years of engineering experience with a focus on layout development.  
  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or possess equivalent experience.  
  • Proficient in utilizing Revit and AutoCAD software.  
  • Skilled in analyzing and optimizing designs for factories, production lines, or warehouses.  
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative and strategic solutions for complex systems level challenges.  
  • Comfortable working with ambiguous problems and finding effective resolutions.  
  • Proficient in conflict management and applying objective thinking.  
  • Capable of working under pressure, managing competing priorities, and meeting tight deadlines.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint applications.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
