About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

As an Analytical Laboratory Training Technician at Redwood, you will have the opportunity to make the world a better place by assisting in a wide variety of analytical / metallurgical / metrology processes across the Company. The key objective for this role is to support the training supervisor in following; daily operational support and data collection of our Analytical Laboratory in a responsible, safe, and practical manner while maximizing time and cost effectiveness. Successful candidates for this role will have strong initiative, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional team skills. 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Bachelors of Science (BS) in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or related scientific field with 4+ years of testing laboratory experience. 
  • Data collection and entry. 
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management software systems (LIMS). 
  • Ability to differentiate learning strategies and instruction methods in varied situations. 
  • Excellent critical thinking and time management. 
  • Able to effectively communicate across the company hierarchy. 
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment . 
  • Self-motivated; able to take problems and drive them to completion using company resources.
  • Excellent organizational skills needed to manage training records and prepare for infrequent audits. 
  • Strong systems analysis and evaluation skills. 
  • Previous experience in training role highly preferred. 
  • Strong Microsoft Office, Outlook skills and ability to build digital training content. 
  • Experience with relevant test methods such as ICP-OES, auto-titration, X-Ray Fluorescence, tensile testing, material property testing, etc.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 standard requirements. 
  • Knowledge of standard industry practices for quality control laboratories. 
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles. 
  • Experience with sample prep and analysis, chemical handling and laboratory hazards. 
  • Demonstrates ability to perform basic chemistry math and calculations. 
  • Adept with data acquisition and analysis tools including Laboratory Information Management Systems and Microsoft Office. 
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and collaboration skills. 
  • Excellent attitude: understands priorities change with company needs and willing to work to ensure deadlines are met. Ability to execute with a calm and collaborative urgency. 
  • Ability to regularly lift 35 lbs.

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Provides support of trainings, document control programs, and supports coordinating resources effectively to support laboratory training goals. 
  • Builds effective relationships with employees that will improve an employee’s likeliness to be successful; accomplished through strong laboratory presence and ongoing engagement with training staff and training supervisor. 
  • In accordance to the training supervisor, provides training to new hires in safety, company policy, procedures, base lab practices, along with other topics through hands-on and classroom-based learning.  
  • Maintains electronic records of training, per the supervisor, for the analytical laboratory. 
  • Works closely with training supervisor, the Global Training and Knowledge Management Team, and all other business units to ensure training and controlled document practices are aligned across the Redwood organization 
  • Promotes a positive work culture that fosters safety and compliance to procedures, policies, and work instructions.
  • Maintains honest and open communications, a good working environment and culture.
  • Support in training audits / assessment programs, conducts training surveys, and communicates results to employees and leadership.
  • Initiates opportunities for strategic and tactical improvements within the facility.
  • Ensures diversity within the department is promoted, respected, and valued.
  • Assists with/performs routine chemical, metrological, and/or metallurgical analysis and reporting.
  • Perform standard duties as required including lab organization, inventory, safety and process audits, and special projects.
  • Ability to provide feedback directly to trainee.
  • Flexible schedule to allow for training across all shifts. 

Scheduling 

Monday – Friday: 9:00-5:30 (hours are subject to change to account for needed trainings). 

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
