Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Mechanical Engineer, Plant Design  

Redwood Materials is seeking an entrepreneurial Mechanical Engineer to support green and brownfield capital design projects for commercial scale production facilities and plant expansions across multiple manufacturing processes.  

 

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Working with others to deliver multi‑disciplinary engineering designs  
  • Develop mechanical design deliverables, such as design calculations and equipment selection, for various applications including bulk materials handling systems, chemical, slurry & hydraulic piping systems, mechanical platework etc.  
  • Preparation of documentation to support equipment procurement and contract execution, including Scopes of Work, Specifications, Datasheets and Technical Evaluation of Tender Submissions  
  • Review Vendor documentation and facilitate incorporation into project designs with specific reference to ensuring constructability, operability and maintainability  
  • Deliver high quality technical solutions with reference to American and International Standards, Codes, Guidelines and industry best practice  
  • Execute project delivery within schedule, budget and quality criteria with a strong focus on safety  
  • Pro‑actively work to identify risks, both project and technical, and taking appropriate action to ensure successful project outcomes  
  • Fully implement designs, with construction support, commissioning and/or operational support roles as required  

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent  
  • 1-5 years of experience in mineral/chemical processing in a design and construct environment  
  • Slurry, water and chemical solutions pumping and pipeline design experience  
  • Experience with dry powder and bulk materials handling  
  • Familiarity with P&IDs and Piping Isometrics  
  • Piping stress analysis experience advantageous  
  • Understanding of relevant ASME and industry codes and standards  
  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NavisWorks, or Plant3D highly preferred 
  • Experience with industrial scale processes and equipment, including automation. 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; previous project management experience preferred.   
  • Strong deliverable focus and ability to plan the work  
  • Experience with Battery metals and minerals is highly advantageous  
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills 
  • Detail oriented with an analytical and structured approach to problem solving.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
