At Recursion, we're reshaping drug discovery with the integration of Science and Machine Learning. We’re looking for a Junior DevOps HPC Engineer to join our innovative team.

As a key contributor, you’ll participate in the maintenance and development of our HPC systems that drive our revolutionary drug discovery research. You’ll assist in designing, implementing, and managing the infrastructure that supports our machine learning and scientific computing workloads.

Your routine duties will include contributing to the construction of robust and scalable infrastructure, aiding in the deployment and management of HPC resources, and supporting the automation of operational processes. Your growing knowledge of DevOps principles and HPC systems will guide you to tackle diverse computational challenges.

Beyond this, you'll work alongside a skilled team of scientists, machine learning experts, and engineers to aid in the development of our world-class data platform that manages massive amounts of data, facilitating new deep learning models quickly into our production pipeline.

Your efforts will enhance our drug discovery efficiency and effectiveness. In this fast-paced environment, you’ll get exposure to multiple projects simultaneously.

Your role extends beyond just maintaining systems and infrastructure – you'll be engaged in proactive troubleshooting, routine system upkeep, securing our computing environment, and helping to create detailed documentation for all processes and procedures.   • Assist in designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing our Scientific compute, network, and data storage infrastructure and services across both on-premises and public cloud environments.
  • Contribute towards the innovation within the HPC/AI infrastructure to provide an effective, scalable platform.
  • Aid in developing scripts and workflows to automate infrastructure provisioning, dynamic reconfiguration, and various repetitive tasks.
  • Use your problem-solving skills in resolving application, system, and other technical problems, and assist in addressing user tickets swiftly.
  • Help in researching, deploying, and optimizing workloads, resource scheduling, security, and data lifecycle management policies.
  • Participate in regular assessments of the platform's health and operational performance against established metrics.
  • Lastly, through your efforts in technical communication and collaboration with our customers, you'll contribute towards maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Location:

This position is located at our headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. We are open to considering remote candidates who are willing to relocate, and relocation assistance may be available.

The Team You’ll Join 

As a Junior DevOps HPC Engineer, you will be a part of our dedicated HPC Engineering team, reporting directly to the Associate Director. This dynamic team includes two experienced Senior Engineers, and with the addition of two new roles, including this position, you'll be part of an empowered, cross-functional unit.

Our HPC team works in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, handling a broad spectrum of computational projects. These range from developing advanced, scalable infrastructure to deploying and managing HPC resources and automating operational processes. The team also plays a crucial role in the curation of our vast data platform, which caters to a diverse set of professionals, including biologists, data scientists, and automation engineers.

The HPC team is constantly pushing the boundaries in the field of supercomputing in the TechBio industry. As part of this team, you will collaborate on projects that streamline and optimize our machine learning workflows and scientific computing tasks, driving efficient and transformative solutions within the company. The Experience You’ll Need

  • Knowledge of Linux OS administration
  • Understanding of Python programming and bash scripting
  • Practical experience with source control and configuration management
  • Exposure to software-defined infrastructure and cloud computing platforms
  • Understanding of networking
  • Knowledge of multi-tier file and object storage.
  • Exposure to container technology including Docker
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Openness to learning from and sharing knowledge with team members is greatly appreciated

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is:

  • Developing: $138,000
  • Skilled: $146,000
  • Expert: $157,000

You will also be eligible for bonuses and equity compensation + our comprehensive benefits package for United States based candidates. The range displayed on each job posting reflects target ranges for US new hire salaries and is determined by job, level, and market factors.
