Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be leading the technical direction of one or more projects. You will be an individual contributor coding ~50% of the time but also driving projects through the team. You will play a significant role in shaping our software architecture that provides measurable customer value. You will understand both the technology and business to know the right tradeoffs to make. You will be a technical and professional mentor for team members, while working closely with peers, managers, product, design, and operations teams to create solutions that meet business requirements. You will help drive engineering and operational excellence across the company.

Our stack includes: Python, Flask, Jinja, ES6, Vue.js, Saas, Webpack, CloudSQL/MySQL, Redis, Docker, GCP, Kubernetes, Helmfile, Terraform, Ansible, Nginx, Snowflake, Looker

What you’ll do

  • You will be responsible for development work on our payments and charge processing systems

What you'll bring

  • Able to demonstrate a total level of expertise in primary language and technology stack of your team and role (Python and Flask)
  • Able to demonstrate a moderate level of expertise in secondary and tertiary languages and technologies
  • Consistently able to demonstrate a t-shaped skill set of varying degree in other disciplines
  • Consistently navigates technical requirements (including ambiguous) to make prudent and flexible technical decisions
  • Consistently navigates business requirements (including ambiguous/open ended) and makes prudent decisions
  • Consistently navigates tedious tasks and gets them done even when it's not glamorous without overcomplication
  • Impact of contributions are felt throughout several components
  • Quality of work delivered impacts other team members across the company very positively
  • Able to demonstrate total self-sufficiency to take on and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Included in team's on-call rotation and able to lead incident handling
    • Typically, 6+ years of relevant development experience in fast paced environments
    • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent technical training 
    • Experience with large-scale SaaS applications
    • Experience building web applications
    • Experience designing services on top of cloud infrastructure like GCP, AWS, k8s, etc.
    • Prior experience leading people and teams
    • Prior e-commerce experience
