Communications Director, Discipline Lead

Are you passionate about communications, social media, managing teams and driving client satisfaction? Rational is hiring a full time Head of Communications, to lead our Communications Discipline and team. This is a client facing role, responsible for partnering closely both internally and externally to understand client goals and pain points, create communications solutions and strategies, consult on communications solutions across organic social media, influencer marketing, and content marketing, and manage and develop the Communications consulting team. In this role you will design, shape and execute comprehensive, multi-faceted communications programs.

The Communications Discipline Leader at Rational is part of the Marketing Practice, responsible for building and launching the capabilities, solutions and teams across social media, internal and external communications, influencer marketing and content marketing for our clients. You’ll have a point of view on where social media is going, and you’ll proactively work with our clients to add value to their approach, from sharing actionable insights, to providing strategic guidance and even campaign suggestions. You’ll also build solutions and engage in new business opportunities, solving the pain points brought to us by existing clients.

Success in this position is dependent on your ability to work effectively cross-functionally across the organization; you’ll work with other Marketing Practice Discipline leaders as well as our Account and Operations teams to help define and implement scalable and integrated solutions across new and existing accounts. It also requires a passion for social media, superb customer instincts, excellent project management skills, an aptitude for measurement and performance monitoring, a keen eye for compelling and innovative content, and dedication to continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable pitching solutions to both existing and new clients. Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Partner tightly with the rest of the Marketing Practice leadership team to define the direction of Rational’s Marketing practice; the capabilities, solutions and operations across the practice
  • Partner with Rational’s clients and internal teams to drive ongoing value and strategy in our client accounts, with the goal of helping our clients achieve their goals and doing so in a scalable, repeatable way where learnings can be used across accounts.
  • Manage Rational’s team of Communications consultants
  • Serve as a Social Marketing “Best Practices” expert for the organization – monitor and share trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, strategy, algorithmic changes and social platform updates.
  • Participate in new business opportunities
  • Provides clients with advanced insights into social media marketing and communications trends specific to their industry.
  • Support the management of Rational Consulting Team including monthly 1:1s, performance management, performance reviews, career pathing
  • Partner with Rational Account Manager and Rational Recruiting for resourcing needs
  • Coordinates Rational on-boarding, quarterly and ad-hoc trainings
  • Analyze team processes and recommend and drive improvements for better client satisfaction and program optimization
  • Manage the performance of all Rational team members including quarterly performance reviews, individual and team development plans, and performance improvement plans as needed
  • Responsible for managing coverage and ensure delivery of team’s accountabilities despite individuals’ vacations and travel schedules – partners with internal teams to ensure coverage is met
  • Handle all internal processes for the team including PTO requests, training stipends, etc.
  • Establish and maintain strong pulse on team satisfaction and overall morale, provide updates to both Microsoft and Rational and put forward recommendations on actions to consistently improve the team environment
  • Assist in the auditing of team processes and tools and provide recommendations and manage implementation rollout for optimizing team efficiency

 

What You Will Bring:

  • 7+ years Communications experience
  • 5+ years Content Marketing experience
  • 5+ years Social Media experience
  • 5+ years consulting experience and/or experience working with the clients/industries we serve
  • 5+ years people management
  • Ability to influence, collaborate and take on role of trusted advisor with client and team members
  • Strategic thinking and adaptability to anticipate changes that could affect key projects
  • Ability to effectively communicate and manage difficult conversations with both internal and external customers
  • Ability to solve complex problems with keen instincts and organizational experience

  • Microsoft Experience preferred
  • BA/BS degree in related field
