Software Engineer (DevOps)

 

Rakuten Marketing is a leading affiliate marketing solution provider.  The core of the affiliate marketing system is the ability to track consumer interactions with Native Ads and track consumer E-commerce purchases.  The Tracking team has the responsibility to develop, build and deploy services that are used to track consumer interactions with Ads and E-commerce purchases on Advertisers working with Rakuten Marketing.  We are passionate in making sure that our applications can be up and running 24/7/365 and can scale as needed.  Our current environment is a composed of hosted data center and GCP servers running CentOS. The applications are primarily Java with some Perl, Pro C, and Go Lang, Python. We use Oracle, PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases. With Kafka providing us with the ability to stream data. As a part of the team you will be working on enhancements to add new features so that we are providing increased business value.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Take ownership in working with the team to solve engineering and product challenges
  • Build platform components, deployment processes and automation necessary for getting these components deployed quickly, repeatably and reliably
  • Release well designed, testable, efficient code
  • Maintain existing software and help it improve
  • Contribute to the existing architecture design and help it evolve to meet future goals

 

Experience

 

  • 5-7 years DevOps, IT, and/or software engineering work experience
  • Deep knowledge in at least one of the following languages as well as willingness to learn and work with the rest: Java, Golang, Python
  • Practical experience with concepts and technologies (more the better):
    • messaging services (eg: Kafka, RabbitMQ)
    • databases (eg: PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB)
    • deployment automation (eg: Chef, Docker, Jenkins)
  • Experience with Linux
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services (eg: Amazon Web Services, OpenStack, GCP)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
