Manager, Software Engineering (Remote)

We are looking for a US-based Manager of Software Engineering to join our global team here at Rain. Our mission is to regrow individual freedom by giving people control over their income and finances. We are killing predatory financial products like payday loans and overdraft fees.

About You

You are an effective team builder.  You have at least three years of experience managing teams of Backend and Frontend Engineers. You know how to hire, train, and develop engineers from all backgrounds. You understand the benefits of building a diverse and inclusive engineering team. 

 

You are a product thinker. As an Engineering Manager, you’ve worked to set goals, metrics, and a strategy for a product-focused Engineering team. You push your team to prioritize impactful work to meet the company’s goals.

 

You can keep track of, prioritize, and lead multiple projects. We are a growing team, and there's no shortage of things you could be doing in a day. You will prioritize functional projects and make sure they solve real problems and help to make development easier.

 

You have excellent communication skills. You will work closely with our Product organization and Operations teams in multiple geographies including the US, India, and the EU.

 

You are a skilled engineering leader. You've got a strong background in leading a team of Engineers working in a modern tech stack. Even if you aren't a daily coder, you regularly exercise your coding muscles and try to be an asset in any technical context your team may need.

 

You are adaptable. You've been in fast-growing companies and know how to build, change, and adapt to the needs of a company as it grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams to deliver on projects and programs around our business needs
  • Hire new team members, retention of existing team members and removal of team members who are not thriving on the team.
  • Mentoring Development team members and supporting their career development
  • Staying abreast of tools, technologies and industry developments relevant to the work of the team
  • Collaborate with other leads to break down complex deliveries into smaller pieces and iterate
  • To be a high-level technical reference across several teams, guiding and supporting the team on important architectural decisions
  • Optimize cross-team collaboration
  • Define and execute recruiting and onboarding strategy
  • Ensure our development process is followed and refined
  • Provide structured feedback and career growth
  • Communicate and influence in the prioritization of tech backlog
  • Define and implement new processes for enhanced productivity
  • Promote collaboration and engagement across teams 

Qualifications

  • 5 + years of experience in engineering management
  • 8 + years of experience in software engineering developing and operating large scale distributed systems with high availability
  • Experience in software Programming languages such as Go Lang, javascript frameworks such as react.js, container orchestration such as Kubernetes
  • Experience in Fintech services , developing and deploying services in public cloud
  • Experience with early stage software products, taking products from a nascent stage to a higher level of maturity is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required
