At quip, we design and deliver delightful products and services to keep all mouths healthy. We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to help continue this mission. The ideal candidate will be someone experienced enough to be a leader and strong voice on electrical engineering at quip, and drive NPI, VAVE, CI, and R&D efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
New Product Development
- Design and manage high volume consumer electronics from whiteboard drawings to mass production
- Work cross functionally to clearly define and vet product requirements
- Conduct R&D on next-generation technologies
- Accurately assess project scope, costs, and risks, and ensure stakeholders are aligned throughout a project
- Select architecture and components, clearly communicating the evaluation process to stakeholders
- Manage schematics, BOM’s, and PCB layouts
- Manage prototype builds for optimization and design validation
- Design and direct the execution of test plans
- Troubleshoot problems in-person with teams foreign and domestic
- Write and validate embedded firmware
- Design connected IoT products that have to seamlessly connect with phone applications
Sustaining engineering
- Identify, validate, and implement cost-down opportunities
- Support alternate component or redesign initiatives when required for supply chain continuity
- Work cross-functionally with Customer Experience, Logistics, and Operations teams to collaborate on product quality and problem solving across the entire organization
REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years of engineering design for high volume production, preferably in consumer electronics
- Bachelor’s (B.S.) Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Advanced knowledge of circuit theory and embedded systems
- Strong schematic capture and PCB layout skills in eCAD (preferably Altium)
- Experience in the C programming language and the ability to design bare metal firmware
- Working knowledge of testing and implementing motion sensors (accelerometers, gyroscopes, IMUs, etc) and miscellaneous electronic sensors
- Experience designing battery operated consumer electronics, and charging all typical battery chemistries
- Extensive experience scoping out electrical needs for a project, accurately evaluating and communicating risks to a larger team, and ensuring alignment at all stages of development
- Experience working directly with internal PM, ID, ME, Sourcing, Manufacturing, etc teams.
- Knowledge of wireless protocols (Bluetooth, WiFi, etc)
- Expert in electronics testing and debugging while using lab equipment (oscilloscope, power supply, power analyzer, digital analyzer, multimeter)
- Experience in defining a product’s electronics specifications based on user & market research
- Experience deciphering component datasheets and selecting parts for an embedded system
- Experience working with domestic, overseas suppliers and contract manufacturers
- Experience in electronic DFM (design for manufacturing), specifically for high volume overseas manufacturing
- Extensive experience with product qualification, testing, and validation
- Extensive experience rapidly creating robust physical prototypes
- Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally when appropriate
- Knowledge of product development processes
- Comfort with rapid development cycles and the ability to remain flexible in the face of ambiguity
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Strong project management skills to manage a broad set of tasks and responsibilities
- Ability to communicate complex technical subjects to a non-technical audience
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite and G-Suite
NICE TO HAVES:
- Knowledge of consumer electronics regulatory standards and compliance (FCC/IC/UL/IEC)
- Experience with simulation tools (Spice/Matlab)
- Knowledge of C++ and Python
- Experience in sustaining and product support activities for cost down and/or warranty improvements

Availability
We're looking for full time candidates. You should be local in the NYC area and able to work with us in-office on a daily basis in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
