The Director of Technical Marketing is a leader responsible for building Pure Storage’s technical customer community. This role will identify, implement and execute the strategy for creating a robust community of technology experts who share their knowledge. This includes working closely with other Business Units, Marketing, Product Management, Product Development, Sales and Support teams as well as external partners to build core messaging, content, and programs.  

This is a highly visible, strategic role that will work across the entire Pure organization to engage a community of highly satisfied customers (as indicated by a market-leading NPS score of 80+), and help that knowledge and passion show itself publicly in community groups and online forums. The successful candidate will be a highly effective communicator and collaborator with a demonstrated history of working successfully across all levels of an organization. This role is global, and will collaborate with teams across all major geographies. 

As a business leader in the Business Unit, you will measure your success based on the  overall health of the customer ecosystem as measured in breadth and depth of engagement. The successful leader will identify customers who are on the “bleeding edge” and want to champion Pure’s technology in the marketplace of their peers–and then will operationally scale by creating the stage that will magnify their influence. The ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of technology experts who can independently vouch for Pure storage and data management technologies. 

Operational tactics may include recognizing key customers with awards, fostering online support forums, sponsoring birds-of-a-feather meet-ups, engaging with Pure’s customer advisory board, building relationships with key sales, sales engineering, and support leaders, and working with key partners.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Act as quarterback across BU, Marketing, Support, Channel partners, and other Business Units to drive programmatic offerings and strategies to build the Pure customer community and ecosystem.
  • Act as a primary spokesperson for Pure Storage and our portfolio, internally and externally, working with our Marketing and AR/PR teams to deliver a compelling narrative on our positioning and offerings.
  • Partner with global teams to build programs across North America, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific. Work through global support and channel partners to influence customers.
  • Align with the Marketing, Product Management and Engineering teams to drive strategy around how to position new products and technologies in this forum. .
  • Build supporting awareness with our champions, and a thriving customer ecosystem together with Marketing.
  • Together with your direct and extended teams, develop compelling content assets to enable customers to easily understand the value proposition including business value, offering capabilities, and differentiation.
  • Partner to build and execute the engine that touches and nurtures the Pure customer base, including customer websites, community groups and events, and automated nurture systems and databases.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...

  • 10+ years Product Management, Technical Marketing, and/or Marketing experience
  • Experience in SaaS, Cloud, or core infrastructure technologies
  • High bias for action and execution with strong drive to achieve
  • Passionate about working with customers and evangelizing and building thriving communities.
  • Direct experience driving successful field marketing programs is highly desired.
  • Possess a blend of business and technical savvy that includes the ability to build and drive impact with teams across multiple disciplines, especially field teams
  • Analytical and data-driven
  • Possesses excellent written/verbal communication; can communicate concisely and persuasively.
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree is required, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to have conceived and executed multiple, extremely complex projects.

Pure Storage applies a geographic based pay structure depending on an employee’s location. 

  • The annual base salary range is: $143,000 – $294,000. Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations. 
  • This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
