Director of Reporting and Analytics
Pure Storage is looking for an experienced leader to join us as Director of Reporting and Analytics. Leading a team of data product owners, report designers, business analysts, and data scientists, the individual will drive executive reporting processes, design robust and high-impact tools that allow self-service, analyze factors impacting business performance, and derive deep and actionable insights from the most pressing challenges the company faces. The Reporting and Analytics team is chartered to cover a wide range of knowledge domains -- including financial, product, customer, and people -- that provides this leader a unique opportunity to cultivate a holistic understanding of the key issues impacting the business and serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders in the company.
The successful candidate will have a strong blend of technical and business acumen, and excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills. We are looking for candidates with expertise in one or more knowledge domains the organization covers and who have developed a portfolio of high-impact data products/tools that drive business outcomes.
Responsibilities as the team leader:
- Build the Business Analytics department into a highly skilled and sought-after source of information. This includes managing and mentoring a team composed of seasoned and novice analysts and hiring and building new talent.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand their business needs and provide data, reporting, and actionable insights to support their success. Continuously and collaboratively prioritize efforts against areas of the highest business impact.
- Advance our analytics capability from generating insights that describe what happened to what will happen. This also includes the development of a cohesive set of reporting & analytics products (e.g., Long-Term Forecast model) and pulling in knowledge experts across domains that provides an alternative and fundamentals-based view of how the business will likely grow.
- Domain Expertise and Thought Leadership: Become a deep subject-matter expert on Pure’s business, our reporting/system infrastructure, and best practices in analytics and reporting.
- Continuous improvement: dentify and implement ongoing improvements to both the tools/reports we produce and their production process.
- Stakeholder Management & Communication: Build deep and lasting relationships with stakeholders across the DNA organization and other functional areas, including Sales, Marketing, Products, Strategy, IT, Finance, etc. Identify opportunities for collaboration and “win-win” shared projects across functions.
Responsibilities of the team:
- Metrics Rules & Definitions: Oversee the identification, definition, and alignment of business rules governing KPIs
- Report Design & Implementation: Architect reports (e.g., BI dashboard or scorecard) and other syndicated analyses to provide regular business updates and analytical support as needed
- Analysis: Gather, consolidate, and analyze key operating, financial, and sales performance results – including in-depth analysis of revenue and bookings trends, sales team and product performance metrics, quarterly variances, and customer retention rates. Conduct deep dives when observing abnormal trends.
- Capability Evolution: Own the reporting development roadmap for all data products associated with your assigned domain; align with stakeholders to develop new analytical capabilities, incremental analyses, and value-added visualizations; transform, with a long-term vision.
- BU Partnering: Serve as the subject matter expert on assigned domain and deploy as the thought partner for projects requiring an in-depth understanding of knowledge domain.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 12+ years of progressive business experience involving data and analytics, Experience working in technology industry and strategy and/or consulting is a plus.
- Domain Expertise in one or more of the following business domains: financial, customer, product, and people. Demonstrated thought leadership with high business impact throughout his/her career.
- Product Design and Development: 7+ years of design experience with a portfolio that showcases your ability to move fluidly between UX, UI, and visual design for data-oriented products.
- Exceptional Problem-Solving Skills: Proven track record of solving complex problems, thinking creatively, and using data to tell a story to influence senior-level stakeholders.
- Success in fast-paced environments: Track record of success in fast-paced environments with competing and continuously evolving priorities.
- Leadership: Successfully led key initiatives and engaged teams and key stakeholders across business functions and at all levels of the organization
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred. A degree with a concentration in statistics, data science, operational research, or finance preferred.
- Collaboration: Strong collaboration and influencing skills in a highly matrixed environment.
- Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication – structured, engaging, and compelling.
