Position Overview: The hospital is seeking a dedicated Deputy Ward Manager to oversee the operations of its inpatient and outpatient wards. The Ward Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, promoting a positive and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Leadership: Providing leadership and direction to the ward staff, the Ward Manager ensures the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, they develop and implement treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each patient.
  2. Staff Management: Responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating nursing and support staff, the Ward Manager fosters a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning. They provide leadership and support to staff to promote their development and well-being.
  3. Patient Care: Overseeing the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care on the wards, the Ward Manager ensures that care is delivered in accordance with best practice guidelines, evidence-based interventions, and individualized treatment plans.
  4. Quality Assurance: The Ward Manager maintains compliance with regulatory standards, quality benchmarks, and best practices in mental health care. They conduct regular audits, assessments, and reviews to monitor the quality and safety of patient care, implementing improvements as necessary.
  5. Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks related to patient safety, clinical outcomes, and operational continuity, the Ward Manager develops and implements protocols for managing emergencies, incidents, and crises effectively.
  6. Family and Stakeholder Engagement: Building positive relationships with patients, families, caregivers, and external stakeholders, the Ward Manager collaborates with community resources, advocacy groups, and healthcare providers to support the holistic well-being of patients.
  7. Administration and Documentation: The Ward Manager ensures accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and interventions. They maintain comprehensive records in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration. Additional management qualifications desirable.
  • Significant experience in a leadership role within a mental health or healthcare setting, preferably in a hospital environment.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of mental health conditions and treatment modalities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
