Position Overview: We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapist with expertise in paediatric dysphagia to join our dynamic team. In this specialized role, you will play a pivotal role in providing advanced occupational therapy services to paediatric patients with swallowing difficulties in acute ward settings. Your clinical expertise and compassionate approach will be instrumental in optimizing patient outcomes and improving their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of paediatric patients with dysphagia to evaluate swallowing function, safety, and efficiency.
  • Develop individualized dysphagia management plans based on assessment findings, patient goals, and evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • Implement specialized dysphagia interventions, including oral motor exercises, sensory stimulation techniques, and dietary modifications, to improve swallowing function and reduce aspiration risk.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including speech and language therapists, dietitians, nurses, and physicians, to ensure holistic and coordinated care for paediatric patients with dysphagia.
  • Provide education and training to patients, families, and caregivers on dysphagia management strategies, safe feeding practices, and swallowing exercises.
  • Monitor patients' progress regularly and adjust treatment plans as needed to optimize swallowing function and promote safe oral intake.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Extensive experience working as an Occupational Therapist in acute care settings, with a focus on paediatric dysphagia management.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in dysphagia assessment, treatment, and intervention techniques.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to develop and implement individualized dysphagia management plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and engage paediatric patients and their families in the rehabilitation process.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care and promoting best practices in dysphagia management.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the fast-paced and dynamic environment of acute care settings.
