We are currently seeking a dedicated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our team, bringing expertise in in-patient/ward settings, with a focus on elderly and dementia care, discharge planning, and respiratory competency.

Position Overview: As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive care to individuals with mental health needs, particularly in in-patient/ward settings. Your expertise in elderly and dementia care, along with discharge planning experience and respiratory competency, will be essential in providing holistic support and facilitating successful transitions for patients. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need of specialized mental health care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of patients' functional abilities and occupational performance, taking into account their mental health needs and any comorbidities, particularly focusing on elderly and dementia care.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's goals and needs, incorporating evidence-based interventions and therapeutic techniques.
  • Provide support and guidance to patients in building skills and coping strategies to enhance their independence and quality of life.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers, to ensure coordinated care and integrated treatment approaches.
  • Utilize discharge planning skills to facilitate smooth transitions for patients from in-patient/ward settings to community-based care or other appropriate settings.
  • Demonstrate respiratory competency in addressing respiratory needs and integrating appropriate interventions into patient care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working as an Occupational Therapist, with a focus on in-patient/ward settings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in elderly and dementia care, with a thorough understanding of the unique needs and challenges of this population.
  • Proven experience in discharge planning, including assessment of patients' readiness for discharge and coordination of post-discharge support services.
  • Respiratory competency, with the ability to assess and address respiratory needs within the scope of occupational therapy practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and build rapport with patients and their families.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
