Position Overview: We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Consultant in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry to join our team in Carmarthen. The Consultant will play a pivotal role in providing expert psychiatric care to individuals with learning disabilities, contributing to the enhancement of mental health services in Carmarthen and surrounding areas, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and evaluations of individuals with learning disabilities, including diagnostic assessments and formulation of tailored treatment plans.
  • Provide specialized psychiatric care, including medication management, behavioral interventions, and psychotherapy, to address the unique needs and challenges of individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including psychologists, nurses, social workers, and support staff, to coordinate holistic care and ensure the integration of medical, psychological, and social interventions.
  • Offer consultation and support to community-based services, residential care providers, and educational institutions to promote the inclusion and well-being of individuals with learning disabilities in their respective environments.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and clinical supervision sessions to review patient progress, discuss treatment strategies, and ensure adherence to best practice guidelines in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of service improvements and innovations to enhance the quality and accessibility of psychiatric care for individuals with learning disabilities in Carmarthen.

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree from a recognized institution.
  • Completion of specialist training in Psychiatry and eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register.
  • Extensive experience and expertise in providing psychiatric care to individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with individuals with diverse communication and support needs.
  • Commitment to person-centered care, advocacy, and promoting the rights and dignity of individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Knowledge of legislative frameworks, policies, and guidelines relevant to Learning Disabilities Psychiatry in Wales is desirable.
