About Us:

Public.com is an investing app that makes the stock market social. By building a transparent community of investors and offering fractional shares of thousands of publicly-traded companies, we’re making the stock market inclusive, educational, and fun.

With interest in the stock market surging among a new generation of investors, our community is growing rapidly, and we recently reached our 1MM member milestone just 18 months after launching.  To support our ambitious goals, our team is growing and we’re looking for sharp, enthusiastic people who believe in our mission to fundamentally change the way people invest.

We announced our Series D funding round of $220 million in Feb. 2021, just two months after our Series C round. Our investors include Accel, Greycroft (the original investors in Venmo) and Lakestar as well as Will Smith (Dreamers VC), Tony Hawk, The Chainsmokers’ Mantis VC; NFL star J.J. Watt, NYU Stern professor and entrepreneur Scott Galloway, business executive Dick Parsons, Business Class founder Sophia Amoruso, and Shari Redstone’s Advancit Capital.

What you’ll do:

On our team, you will be in the middle of it all – implementing functionality, architecting our system, squashing bugs, maintaining the health of our code, and continually growing as an engineer. The ideal candidate is both forward-thinking and hands-on, has a strong sense of ownership and drive for delivery, and is a good mentor and co-worker. At Public, we pride ourselves on the collaboration between Product, Design and Engineering and so you will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from ideation through building, deploying and continual improvement and evolution.

  • Lead the development and testing of system components/services, code and design reviews
  • Participate in shaping the technical architecture of the product
  • Help translate user stories into technical solutions
  • Deliver highly available and scalable services in a production environment
  • Mentor other engineers, support the technical culture, and help grow the team
  • Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies
  • Communicate with project leads, product managers and other software developers

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in a technical field, but we understand great engineers come from all sorts of different backgrounds and also consider relevant work experience
  • 5+ years programming experience, ideally on a modern stack
  • Our core stack is Java / Spring / mysql / AWS, but you don't have to be an expert in any of these. 3+ years Java, Kotlin or Scala programming experience as well as an understanding of relational databases and ORMs suffices
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others and get stuff done
  • Strong sense of responsibility; driving a project from inception to completion
  • Affinity for solving problems and shipping impactful features, not polishing perfect code or architecture
  • Experience working in a collaborative coding environment (and git specifically), refining designs together, writing tests, working through code reviews and managing pull requests

Bonus Points:

  • Experience scaling highly available, mission critical systems
  • Worked with trading and/or exchange systems
  • Familiarity with the FIX Protocol
  • Trading APIs (either crypto or securities)
  • AWS experience
  • Experience with Agile
