Company Overview

Prime Medicine was founded to bring the promise of gene editing to patients. We use Prime Editing, a next-generation technology that can “search and replace” to restore normal genetic function almost anywhere in the genome. Prime Editing searches to find the precise place in the genome to edit and replaces the segment of faulty DNA with a correct copy of DNA.  A single Prime Editor can correct the individual mutations found across patients, meaning Prime Editing can potentially address more than 90 percent of known disease-causing genetic mutations.

We envision a world where this technology can cure, halt, and ultimately prevent genetic diseases, providing lifelong benefit to patients.  Prime Medicine offers the opportunity to shape the future of gene editing and transform how medicines are used to treat disease. Realizing the promise of Prime Editing requires a talented team with diversity of viewpoints and expertise. We’re building a group of dedicated, scientifically curious individuals who are passionate about helping patients live longer, healthier lives.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist to help us build and advance new drug discovery programs. The candidate will join and contribute to a multidisciplinary team focused on evaluating new opportunities and developing novel prime editing-based gene therapies targeting both monogenic and complex diseases. The candidate will apply her/his deep scientific expertise to develop and utilize key assays that enable scientific proof of concept studies for early discovery programs. They should have deep knowledge of and experience in the genetics of human disease and cell model development. This is a unique opportunity for a recent PhD graduate or seasoned MS applicant to join a fast-paced, highly collaborative team at the cutting edge of drug development committed to bringing cures to patients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and screen Prime Editors to correct disease-causing mutations in disease relevant cell types
  • Develop disease phenotype-specific molecular and functional assays in relevant cell types to demonstrate genotype-phenotype relationship
  • Design and execute cell-based experiments, analyze, interpret, and present data in cross-functional team meetings
  • Meticulous documentation of experimental data, compile experimental summaries in an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN)
  • Collaborate with broader team to apply the latest prime editing technology, to optimize screening strategy, and to evaluate delivery methods in vitro and in vivo.
  • Help to establish strategy to advance prime editors from initial screening hits to clinical candidate and subsequent IND-enabling studies

 Requirements:

  • PhD with 2+ years or MS with 5+ experience in biological science or related discipline – industry experience preferred
  • Proven expertise and track record of success in studying disease biology and/or advancing drug discovery programs
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture (primary and human iPSC-derived cells) and nucleic acid delivery into cultured cells (lipofection, nucleofection, viral delivery, etc.)
  • Experience with nucleic acid and protein detection and quantification assays (qPCR, ddPCR, NGS, FISH, immunocytochemistry, HTRF, MSD, etc.)
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques, including primer design, NGS library preparation, vector construction, Gibson and golden gate cloning, nucleic acid extraction, etc.
  • Experience with CRISPR-based gene editing
  • Prior knowledge of and hands on experience with AAV or LNP deliveries is a plus
  • Prior experience with laboratory automation and screening is a plus
  • Ability to work independently while also building relationships with colleagues within a dynamic, matrixed organization
  • Ability to adapt to increasing scope and complexity of work brought on by growth/change
  • Scientific rigor and strong interest in being a part of a highly motivated, highly collaborative team who will bring transformative prime editing therapies to patients

Prime Medicine is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran status, or any other classification protected by law.
