Position Overview

We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Scientist/Senior Scientist with strong expertise in cell-based analytics to join the analytical development team in Prime’s growing Technical Development and Operations group. Reporting to the VP & Head of Analytical, Formulation, and Early Phase QC Testing, this individual will develop and apply cell-based assays for the characterization of critical reagents, and develop functional potency assays for drug substance and drug product release and stability testing at Prime Medicine. This is a hands-on role where the successful candidate will be involved in day-to-day activities in genomic, proteomic, and functional assay development. The ideal candidate will be highly independent and will excel in a matrixed environment, as this role will interface with the process development, pharmacology, formulation, biology, and quality teams to advance Prime’s prime editing pipeline.    

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and apply cell-based potency assays for the characterization and release testing of cell and gene therapy products including in vivo and ex vivo delivered drugs
  • Independently plan and execute experiments, perform data analysis and interpretation
  • Generate, evaluate, and maintain critical data, including performing statistical analysis
  • Provide oversight of external CTL (contract testing lab)/CDMO (contract development and manufacturing organizations) and perform internal early-stage assay qualification, validation and sample testing
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies, stay up-to-date with current literature, and implement new features and functionalities into Prime’s cell analytics platform
  • Author, review, and approve protocols, SOPs, technical documents, and analytical sections of regulatory submissions
  • Maintain thorough electronic lab notebooks and documentation records, and present findings to multi-disciplinary teams in various oral and written formats


  • MS/PhD in cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, or related discipline with 5+ (MS) or 2+ (PhD) years of relevant experience
  • Experience in development of cell-based potency assays, including developing potency assays cell and gene therapy programs
  • Proficiency in cell culture, transfection, PCR, western blot, MSD, ELISA, reporter assays, and fluorescence imaging
  • Experience in cellular mechanism of action studies
  • Experience with qualifying and validating assays and understanding of ICH/FDA guidelines is strongly desirable
  • Experience with flow cytometry is a plus
  • Experience in management of external CMO/CDMOs is a plus
  • Familiarity with liquid handling instruments and automation platforms (e.g. Biomek, Hamilton) is a plus
  • Highly self-motivated and driven with a can-do, make it happen attitude and ability to own and drive projects
  • Strong collaborator with cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
