We are looking for an experienced lead engineer to be a significant contributor to our existing product in the Digital Shelf Analytics space, PROWL. We are currently next levelling this very popular product to build a world-class application leveraging scalable infrastructure and our sophisticated data warehouse and processing pipelines in Snowflake. Growth is expected to continue in the realm of 30 – 40% year on year for PROWL and we currently ingest close to a billion price changes per month.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

 

  • Design, prototype, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve our software product and platform using JavaScript (React/Redux/Node)
  • Analyze and decompose complex software systems and collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence software product design
  • Support and contribute to the technical roadmap in terms of architecture and scalability
  • Identify scalability, performance and resilience concerns, and develop plans for remediation
  • Lead the migration of applications into a containerized environment
  • Identify and engage in opportunities to reduce legacy application inefficiencies as newer projects and solutions become available 
  • Provide out of the box thinking and pragmatic
  • Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables 
  • Help refine, enhance and maintain group coding standards, best practices and application design
  • Promote high quality coding standards through the employment of industry best practices, including CI/CD 
  • Ensure excellent code quality standards are achieved and retained through appropriate testing
  • Provide mentorship to more junior developers on system design and coding implementation
  • Help drive instrumentation and monitoring of performance via DataDog
  • Create and maintain documentation and training material
  • Design and implement performance optimization of code, data pipelines and architecture, including caching mechanisms
  • Understand and adhere to system control standards, ensuring the company remains in compliance

  

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

  • BS degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience 
  • A minimum of 4 years of software engineering experience developing client-facing applications using React/JavaScript and Node.js
  • Experience with creating and maintaining React components
  • Experience working with and processing large volumes of data
  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals including algorithms, complexity analysis, data structures, information architecture, functional programming, and object-oriented analysis and design 
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
  • Experience with CI / CD procedures and tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.) and related best practices
  • Well versed in all web development fundamentals: HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, jQuery, DOM, JSON, REST, Ajax, XML, HTTP, TCP, DNS, SSL, etc
  • Extensive experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: PHP, Javascript, Go, Java, or Python 
  • Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed 
  • Any experience with e-commerce a plus

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • 6+ Years of experience in application development, spanning front end and back end 
  • Expert working knowledge of PHP and their web frameworks (eg. Symfony, Laravel)
  • Core competency with multiple development languages
  • Experience building scalable and highly available distributed applications
  • Experience/familiarity with both unit tests and functional testing
  • Experience setting up, maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of core AWS services (eg. S3, RDS, EC2, EKS, Lambda)
  • Experience working with containers (Docker, EKS, Kubernetes)
  • Experience working with queueing structures (RabbitMQ, Kafka)
  • Experience with relational (SQL) and NOSQL databases
  • Demonstratable experience with big data platforms (Redshift, Snowflake) and their respective pipelines etc
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and to efficiently balance multiple simultaneous projects with disparate timelines
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, well-supported environment with an emphasis on rapid iteration guided by group feedback
