Precision for Medicine focuses on research and development initiatives and primarily services emerging to mid-size innovative biotechnology firms. Precision Value & Health provides solutions to maximize the commercial potential of innovative therapeutics for larger biopharma firms as well as emerging biotech companies. Precision Medicine Group is a team of over 3,000 employees across 35 offices and laboratories world-wide.

The Role

Reporting into the EVP Finance & CFO for PVH, the Vice President, Business Unit Finance Lead will lead the finance function for a business unit within PV&H.  Precision Value & Health is currently over 1,300 employees and growing rapidly. The business is organized into three business units:

  • Evidence Solutions: consulting and advisory services to develop the evidence needed to demonstrate commercial value of new therapeutic treatments
  • Data Sciences: technology-enabled and data analytical solutions for life science companies to develop, plan, and execute targeted engagement programs
  • Engagement Solutions: communication services for translating evidence into benefits for healthcare providers, patients, payers and investors

The VP, Business Unit Finance Lead for Engagement Solutions is responsible for driving business unit planning/budgeting/forecasting processes, and ensuring the financial plans meet the expectations of PVH and PMG stakeholders.  The role will operate in a matrix organization with responsibilities for coordinating and leading client finance, FP&A and Accounting efforts to meet the business needs of P&L leadership and other stakeholders.

S/he will be expected to work effectively across the company, evidenced by strong business partnership with the FP&A, accounting, sales, marketing, IT, operations, and the business development functions.  This position is expected to challenge and support the business, increasing PVH’s ability to anticipate issues and identify opportunities, and drive informed data-driven decision making through diligent financial management.  The successful candidate will be a hands-on, client-first strategic thinker, as well as strong analytical leader with a proven track record of success in finance leadership roles.

Key responsibilities

Financial Leadership

Strategy

  • Serves as a member of the business unit leadership team and acts as a strategic partner in the development and management of the business unit’s vision and short/long-term objectives.
  • Strategically supports the service line, business unit, segment and parent teams with organizational goals and objectives.

P&L Management

  • Act as a thought partner and support delivering revenue and EBITDA results in accordance with overall business plan objectives.
  • Provide accurate financial forecasts to management and contribute strategically to the allocation of resources to ensure overall profitability of the business unit.
  • Communicate risks and opportunities in the forecast and help mitigate business unit risk to ensure revenue and EBITDA targets are met.
  • Lead the annual budget process and quarterly reforecasting exercise for your assigned business unit, linking business strategy, projecting revenue and expense from both a top down and bottoms up approach, assessing risk and opportunities.
  • Partner with the business unit leader to present the monthly financial results for the business unit with PVH and PMG leadership.
  • Preform ad hoc qualitative and quantitative analysis to drive and identify key insights and opportunities for P&L and operational improvement.
  • Influence allocation of resources through budgeting, planning, forecasting and variance analysis in collaboration with corporate and functional department and other business units.

Project Leadership

  • Lead multiple major projects simultaneously from beginning to end supporting senior business leaders along with providing expertise and support to other minor initiatives.
  • Drive innovative thinking on financial operational and strategic challenges, problem solving based on own experience and other’s expertise.
  • Use deep financial expertise to structure approaches to projects and ambiguous problems, understand and articulate potential paths to solutions, and align the right people/resources against the right workstreams.
  • Translate strategies into action plans with clear owners, timing/milestones, and deliverables.
  • Manage and conduct objective analysis/research on current and emerging market trends, firm competitors, project/staff management, financial performance, key operating metrics, and other related topics to inform strategic options and financial performance improvements.
  • Clearly summarize gathered data and facts, develop logical and complete story lines and presentations, confidently communicate and present finding to senior management expressing your own opinions supported by data/facts.
  • Provide financial clarity and managerial oversight to ensure business processes and policies follow GAAP and internal policies.
  • Provide thought leadership in creation and enhancement of key performance indicators and oversee the institutionalizing and engraining of KPIs across the finance function.
  • Form strong relationships and communication channels across the organization, fostering a culture of collaboration and partnership to build and enhance infrastructure, process, and systems.

 Business Leadership

  • Create and maintain strong relationships within the business unit, segment, and financial leadership to ensure alignment.
  • Coordinate and work with the leaders of Client Finance, FP&A and Accounting to ensure cross functional support and alignment.
  • Support company continual improvement initiatives, process standardization, training, and cultural transformation efforts.
  • Adapt to and balance workload in an environment where priorities change while managing expectations of internal and external clients through frequent communication and thought partnership.
  • Support efforts to explore system enhancements and other technology solutions to automate and optimize workflow to eliminate manual tasks.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Participate as a member of the PVH Finance Leadership Team responsible for driving the PVH Finance strategy, culture, partnerships, and people development.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, purpose, mutual respect, client service and accountability.
  • Establish a results-oriented management style that measures and evaluates individual performance against clearly defined accountable competencies, responsibilities, and objectives.

  • Ensure sufficient resources, tools and processes are in place to scale a strong finance team with the right people, process, and technology.

Leadership / Organizational Development

  • Able to articulate a complex task or analysis to individuals at all levels of the company.
  • An exceptional manager and motivator of people and teams who can build organizational capacity through a combination of proper organizational structure, hiring, training and recruiting the best talent available.
  • Able to equip client teams with superior tools to support execution.

Ideal Experience

  • 10-15 years of professional experience in finance roles, including substantial experience in FP&A, and leadership of a divisional business unit for a company of at least $300 million in total revenues.
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Advanced business degree a plus, C.P.A. a plus.
  • Industry experience in professional services is highly preferred, with a preference for life sciences, communications, or consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience in building infrastructure and teams, and driving business results from the finance organization, leading to measurable improvement in the company’s capabilities and financial performance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate and influence at all levels.
  • Thorough understanding of financial regulations, accounting principles and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of finance processes, systems, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with data visualization tools, e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, Think-Cell

Precision is required by law in some states or cities to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Precision, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.  This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, health insurance, retirement savings benefits, life insurance and disability benefits, parental leave, and paid time off for sick leave and vacation, among other benefits.
