Position Summary:

 

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager (EHS Manager) is responsible for all aspects of developing and/or participates in Global and Local programs to promote safe working environment and practices, related procedures, ergonomics and proper use of containment equipment and facilities. Proactively ensure the minimization of risk related to non-compliance with regulations and policies governing the conduct of biomedical research. Leads and implements guidelines established by the Safety Committee. Reviews procedures and activities involving biohazardous materials. Develops and implements internal refresher/training programs. This role will also act as the designated Safety Officer and chemical hygiene officer for the Frederick Facility.

 

 

Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:

 

  • Conduct or delegate safety tours to new laboratory staff assigned to work at the Frederick site. Work with the safety Committee to identify and train additional team members to lead safety tours.
  • Lead quarterly safety meetings with representatives from applicable departments; Identify corrective actions for safety incidents and/or observed trends (Updates to SOPs may be required); Record meeting minutes
  • Review and update First Responder List
  • File safety related permits required to transport, receive, or ship biological materials. (i.e., CDC transport permit)
  • Purchase safety and ergonomic equipment and supplies as necessary
  • Respond to safety questions
  • Oversee routine monthly and annual safety inspections, such as fire extinguisher checks, first aid kit checks, satellite accumulation area checks, safety shower and eyewash checks, AED checks, and spill kit checks
  • Resolve outstanding safety related tasks observed during regular inspections and audits
  • Inspects facilities for compliance with regulations and guidelines pertaining to the use, handling, and disposal of potential biohazard materials
  • Create, review, update safety procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Work with end users to schedule hazardous waste pick-up as necessary, conduct hazardous material inventories, maintain SDS files, and other support functions
  • Promote safety programs, proper use of PPE and services among all staff at Frederick site
  • Track and trend safety related metrics for annual management review
  • Review Incident/Accident & Ergonomic reports with HR to determine when incident is reportable to OSHA; Support accident investigations
  • Send periodic emails reminders about Safety Issues
  • Register new employees (Globally) for initial BBP/HazCom training and ensure certificates have been filed in training binders or they sign off via Zen Event
  • Schedule and manage First Responder Training
  • Promote workplace ergonomics improvement to remove risk factors that lead to musculoskeletal injuries and allows for improved human performance and productivity.
  • Carry out other duties/projects as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 4 years of relevant working experience

 

 

 

Other Required:

 

  • Travel to Precision owned labs on a regular schedule (minimally each site annually or as needed)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple ongoing projects / teams to ensure agreed upon goals and milestones are accomplished
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams to ensure teams are staying on track and achieving agreed milestones

 

 

Preferred:

 

  • Degree in occupational safety and health
  • PMP, Six Sigma, or certification in LEAN principles

 

Skills:

 

  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

This compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Precision, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, health insurance, retirement savings benefits, life insurance and disability benefits, parental leave, and paid time off for sick leave and vacation, among other benefits.

$80,000$115,000 USD
