About the Pet team:
The Pet team at Policy Expert is fully responsible for the technology powering our new Pet insurance product. We're on a mission to provide pet parents with peace of mind and great value. We use a data-driven approach to refine our product and build innovative solutions that truly meet the needs of our customers. We're always on the lookout for ways to evolve our tech stack for maintainability, scalability and efficiency. We leverage domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, and event sourcing help to achieve these goals. We are product-led, working within a cross-functional team to deliver the right solutions. Your day to day:
This role is all about collaborating across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to customers. As a Frontend engineer, you’ll work in a team alongside product owner, marketers, designers, software engineers, data analysts, business analysts, delivery managers, quality engineers and more!
Together you’ll build and support a particular part of Policy Expert. Our teams belong to our wider product led verticals (we use to describe self-governing business units). They are; Home, Pet, Motor, Shared Services, Platform, Pricing / Underwiring / Fraud and Data science. They’re all looking for additional Software Engineers right now, we do a standard interview process across all our collectives and at the end we will find the best match for you based on your skills, experience, preferences and aligning with the business need!
Our software engineers have a variety of different backgrounds. If you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you. We do not ask for formal qualifications or degree requirements for any of our engineering roles.
Our Tech Stack:
We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies:
- React for client face
- NodeJS for serverless / middleware applications
- GraphQL / REST for client API’s
- Micro services / micro frontends our architecture
- Feature flags / canary releases for incremental delivery
- Java to write our application code
- Dynamo / Postgres / MySQL / Aurora / S3 for most persistent data storage
- SNS/SQS for our event-driven architecture
- Fargate and Docker to schedule and run our services
- AWS for most of our infrastructure
- CloudFormation for our infrastructure as code
- GitHub Actions for our CI/CD
Who are you:
- you have strong experience working on the Frontend of a technology product
- you have a product mindset: you care about customer outcomes, and you want to make data-informed decisions
- you’re comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity
- you’re interested in distributed systems and writing resilient software
- you have experience building client applications using React and comfortable writing code in Typescript.
- you think you’d enjoy the kind of work we’re doing
- you practice Test-Driven Development and are proficient in writing high-quality unit tests, acceptance tests, contract tests and other forms of automated tests.
- you can undertake detailed research to solve complex challenges.
- you understand systems architecture and scalable systems.
- you possess excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and clear discussions with non-technical stakeholders.
- you're placing strong emphasis on collaboration and can easily jump between various teams if your task requires making external contributions
- you have a natural curiosity and diligent approach to solving problems
Bonus points if:
- you are familiar with our tech stack.
- you have a solid grasp of Domain-Driven Design, Event Sourcing, Event-Driven Design.
- you have experience building products end-to-end not necessarily greenfield, from ideation to implementation and support.
- you have experience using Java.
- you have prior experience in the insurance or financial sector.
- you have hands-on experience in projects using AWS Cloud.
