If you are an experienced Android engineer who can own the technical work related to maintaining and further evolving the Secret Escapes Android members-only app, then this journey may be a good fit for you. You will be doing hands-on engineering work. You will also be responsible for driving and managing the technical collaboration, application architecture and tech debt for our Android app. You will be part of a creative and collaborative process where we work together to experiment and innovate which helps our members on their journey of booking their next dream holiday!

The Role / What you’ll do

You will be working in No Doubt - the squad owning the Secret Escapes members’ iOS and Android applications. As an Android Software Engineer your will

 

  • Take ownership of the technical work, tools, and process relevant to our Android app
  • Manage and drive app releases, thus minimising the risk for degrading user experience
  • Build up outstanding user experience through Jetpack Compose
  • Become the guardian of our Kotlin code base, enforce and maintain best practices
  • Make technical decisions based on production, performance and user experience metrics and data
  • Enable experimentation through A/B testing
  • Support Designer with defining and implementing a brand new Design Language System
  • Support Product Managers, Designers and fellow engineers in discovery activities
  • Negotiate and align API contracts with backend engineers
  • Evolve the current MVI application architecture in line with our technical vision
  • Vigorously manage tech debt and constantly improve the maintainability of the Android app
  • Champion regression prevention, code coverage and automated testing
  • Enable business, product and technical decision making based on data
  • Assist in app discovery activities

 

This way, you will help the squad achieve its short-term goals, some of which are related to 

 

  • Improving discoverability of deals in the app by delivering Search and Filter enhancements.
  • Implementing and adopting a Design Language System for the Android and iOS apps.
  • Delivering Post Book experience MVP Phase 2 on time and promise.
  • Improving homepage to show fresh deals and offers.
  • Modernising the technology stack by working on and contributing to our plan for eliminating massive tech debt in the Android app.

  • Adept at picking up and implementing the necessary automated tests to maximise coverage and reduce risk
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose for building engaging user experiences
  • Good grasp of Material Design and the Android design guidelines
  • Understanding of Android app life cycle, performance and optimization
  • LEAN and Agile culture
