About the Role 

Plus Power recruits outstanding energy industry professionals who are driven to develop, build and operate assets safely and reliably to decarbonize the power markets while growing their careers. In order for the global energy system to make the transition from a carbon-based grid, to a renewable energy grid, large scale energy storage must be introduced into the electricity system to balance intra-hour supply and demand.  Energy storage is the enabler of high penetration variable renewable generation like solar and wind. 

Plus Power is looking for an Energy Trader to maximize revenue for Plus Power’s ERCOT operating assets. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, self-directed, and disciplined power trader. Position will focus on short-term transactions in ERCOT.  Candidate must be able to analyze (product valuation, financial and risk analysis, and back-testing models) and develop trade strategies in a collaborative environment. Candidate must be familiar with ERCOT Protocols and market registration, market participation rules.  Ideal professionals must possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field and a minimum of five years energy trading experience within the ERCOT or other US ISO/RTO markets. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for optimizing Plus Power’s battery energy storage system (BESS) assets located in ERCOT in the day-ahead and real-time markets 
  • Develop virtual and PTP strategies based on fundamental and congestion analysis 
  • Create co-optimization strategies for battery storage resources 
  • Coordinate and execute day-ahead and real-time energy and ancillaries bid submittals, or overrides of algorithmic trading application when warranted 
  • Perform intra-day monitoring and forecasting of markets and battery State of Charge and State of Health, coordinating with Scheduling Coordinator to ensure optimal battery availability 
  • Support Day Ahead/Real Time operations in regard to dispatch, outage coordination, and capacity replacement transactions 
  • Support and maintain market registrations for Plus Power’s BESS in multiple ISO/RTO markets 
  • Help develop forward hedge optimization strategies, and execute forward financial/physical transactions in accordance to approved plans, risk limits, credit limits, volume limits, and tenor limits 
  • Track US power markets, pricing trends, fuel trends, and other market developments 
  • Track ISO/RTO market rule changes, and recommend changes to rules to Plus Power Policy group 
  • Provide training and support to new traders regarding Plus Power’s processes and procedures as needed 

  

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline required – Economics, Finance, or Engineering preferred 
  • Minimum three (3) years of applicable experience in the energy sector 
  • Experience with the ERCOT power market, additional experience with ISO-NE region is preferred
  • Experience with Trading/Scheduling software such as NERC Tagging, SCADA, ISO Scheduling Portals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required  
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Analytical skills required for pricing, risk assessment and transaction structuring
  • Flexibility to potentially
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
  • Familiarity/Experience with battery energy storage system is preferred but not required
  • Ability to commute into The Woodlands area 

 

Compensation, Location, and Benefits

 

Highly competitive total compensation from one of North America’s leading energy storage developers, owners and operators. Flexible, work from home or hybrid work from Plus Power’s offices in San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Seattle, and Palm Beach.

The expected salary range* for this position begins at $120,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographic labor market, and other factors consistent with applicable law. This position is also eligible to participate in our annual bonus program.
