Purpose of the role

Pico is currently seeking candidates for a Sales Engineer position.  A Pico Sales Engineer has a thorough understanding of all existing and in-development Pico products and services in addition to the competitive landscape; s/he must also have strong project management skills, attention to detail, outstanding oral/written communication skills and will thrive within a fast paced and, at times, demanding environment.  This position will report to Pico’s Global Head of Sales Engineering and will interact directly with sophisticated, nano/microsecond sensitive trading firms in addition to internal sales, account management, product management and development staff. The Sales Engineer will adopt existing Internal Engineering standards to create client specific designs for implementation. Work with Senior Members of Internal Engineering Teams on bespoke client solutions as they arise, and templatize these solutions for future use after approval by the Engineering steering committee.

Responsibilities and duties (include but not limited to)

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of all of Pico’s products and services including data center footprint, network, market data coverage, software solutions and vendor partners.
  • Collaborate with sales and account management teams as a technical expert to help qualify and ultimately win business
  • Work closely with clients and prospects to understand/interpret technology requirements and collaboratively design, recommend and document individual technology solutions
  • Lead whiteboard sessions and actively participate in presentations
  • Design network solutions meeting requirements for low latency, high availability, and scalability
  • Design solutions adherent to Pico and industry security standards.
  • Help to quote out solutions within Salesforce and be proficient in Microsoft Excel to model discount arrangements
  • Provide feedback into the Product Management team to pass along requirements that will influence roadmaps and future design considerations
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of industry leading financial technology solution providers and the competitive landscape; be confident in recommending or referring to others
  • Interact with prospects from sys-admins on up to C-suite; build and maintain relationships
  • Craft detailed solution diagrams in Microsoft Visio
  • Create proposal material for client consumption
  • Provide technical support for proof-of-concepts and implementations, identifying and resolving challenges and escalating as required
  • Work with both Systems and Network Engineering teams to design/engineer through non-standard elements of a given solution
  • Be able to solution sell to the bigger picture, understanding the components of what is needed to satisfy requirements
  • Participate in thorough knowledge-share hand-offs of newly-won opportunities to account management and service delivery teams
  • Assist in pushing deals over the finish line by building trust and rapport with other technical stakeholders inside a client account

Education, Skills and background (incl. Education and Experience Requirements)

  • In-depth knowledge of Financial Extranets, Server hardware, market data, low-latency trading infrastructure, and the financial technology landscape.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and take direction
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite – Visio, Excel and PowerPoint in particular
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and interact with all levels of management; self starter
  • Team player
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and organized
  • 5+ years’ work experience in financial technology sales engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related
  • Experience with Salesforce and JIRA

Technical Skills:

  • Understanding of the datacenter colocation environment
  • Understanding of networking concepts and protocols
  • Strong in unicast/multicast routing and switching concepts
  • Strong in Arista, and/or Cisco hardware and software
  • Knowledgeable in network design standards and best practices
  • Familiar with network security standards, hardening, configuration, and best practices
  • Knowledgeable in PTP, Boundary Clocks, Grandmasters, and other timing services
  • Understanding of Server technologies, low latency network cards etc.
  • Understanding of Cloud Technology platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google
  • Understanding of Virtualization and Containerization technologies

 

Working Arrangements 

This is a Hybrid position with weekly time in the office with the flexibility of working from home. Though travel may be required from time to time, it is not expected to be regular or frequent. The role holder will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary for the performance of this role (recognizing that it involves multiple jurisdictions/geographies including but not limited to EMEA, USA and APAC).

Full compensation packages are based on candidate experience and relevant certification. 

New York Pay range

$160,000 - $160,000 USD
