We are seeking an experienced and motivated Roasting & Production Supervisor to lead our team in delivering exceptional coffee production. In this hands-on role, you’ll oversee daily roasting operations, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and drive efficiency through team leadership and process improvements. Your expertise will be key to maintaining efficient operations and high-quality output of coffee for all of customers. This role is on-site in Oakland, CA.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Team Management

  • Support hiring, coaching, developing, training, team communication, and conducting all performance management for the team
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, Cal / OSHA, FSMA, SQF, and all food and worker safety regulations, and sustainability compliance programs under the direction of Roasting and Production Manager
  • Audit payroll system/wage and hour on a daily basis to include time punches, resolve discrepancies, and approve payroll and time off requests for your assigned team members to ensure accuracy and legal compliance
  • Support implementation of standard procedures and policies for improving operational efficiencies
  • Participate in a continuous improvement team and conduct projects to improve department issues
  • Monitor process metrics to measure and manage operational effectiveness

Roasting & Production Management

  • Supervise the daily operations of the green bean handling, roasting, coffee blending, grinding, packaging, and packing operations to ensure department demands are met
  • Oversee troubleshooting of machinery, ensuring timely resolution of equipment issues, while coordinating regular preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and optimize production efficiency
  • Oversee department quality control and assurance protocols and reporting 
  • Train and develop all Leads to ensure machines are properly utilized/maintained
  • Verify area-specific checklists are completed as scheduled

Inventory Management

  • Review work orders daily to maintain a live inventory that matches production on the floor (NetSuite Advanced Manufacturing)
  • Execute weekly production schedule delivered by Inventory Planning Manager
  • Direct EOM inventory process by ensuring accurate completion of all raw materials used in the department
  • Implement systems, processes, and training to ensure work orders are filled out properly for full traceability from raw materials to finished goods

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Minimum 3 years of experience supervising groups of 10+ within a production/manufacturing or similar environment, food and beverage experience a plus 
  • Ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years hands on or oversight experience of mechanical operations
  • Proven ability to create and manage schedules in a production/manufacturing environment
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Google Workspace, email, MRP (Netsuite a plus)   
  • ServSafe Food Handler and Forklift Certification a plus
  • Read, write, and speak English
  • Read, write, and speak Spanish a plus

 

**Compensation & Benefits

A reasonable estimate of the starting annual base salary for this role is $75,000 - $82,000. Please note that the base salary will vary based on qualifications, previous experience, and work location.
