As a Production Lead, you'll play a critical role ensuring that we pack and deliver the highest quality coffee for our stores and customers.
This role is based at our roasting plant in Oakland, CA. The shift is 5:30am - 2:00pm Monday through Friday.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Operations
- Direct team to set up, change over and operate manual packaging equipment including: heat sealing machine, foot-powered bagging machine, coffee mixers, coffee grinders, manual and electric pallet jacks, etc.
- Oversee the administrative work order data entry process on the production floor, accurately accounting for materials, lot codes expiration dates, labor, and downtime
- Set up, change over, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain blending, automated packaging equipment and systems
- Perform operator-level corrective maintenance machine repairs, troubleshooting, and resolution
- Conduct process quality control checks
- Clean packaging machinery/work areas daily - document on checklists, follow Good Manufacturing Practices
- Train and mentor new and existing team members
- Troubleshoot and solve complex production issues
- Deep understanding of all processes in the assigned section of the Roasting Plant floor
- Communicate ideas, issues, and concerns with the Roasting & Production Manager and Supervisor
- Partner with the Roasting & Production Manager and Supervisor to complete the weekly production schedule, working to organize labor efficiently and effectively
- Participate in continuous improvement activities on a daily basis
- Diffuse or escalate team member issues in a timely manner
- Operate forklifts to move equipment and supplies as required
Inventory, Maintenance
- Manage inventory of supplies for the department (eg boxes, tape, etc)
- Participate in EOM inventory counts and weekly cycle counts
- Request Maintenance Actions through MaintainX CMMS
Compliance
- Report maintenance issues to the Manager
- Follow Safety / OSHA processes, procedures, and regulations
- Follow Food Safety (FSMA, SQF, GMP) practices, procedures and regulations
- Attend all Food Safety Training
- Continuous improvement and 5S projects as directed
- Contribute to a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with customers, suppliers, and co-workers
- Other projects and duties as assigned
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Minimum 2 years experience working in a manufacturing facility on packaging and/or blending machines
- Minimum 2 years experience in a lead role overseeing 10 or more people
- Good command of English language skills both written and oral. Spanish speaking is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in a role that requires a strong attention to detail and adherence to guidelines, policies and procedures
- Previous experience working in a team environment and demonstrates professional and positive communication and behavior
- Basic math skills (adding, subtracting multiplication)
- Ability to work a range of shifts Monday through Friday
- ServSafe Food Handler and Forklift Experience a plus
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Visual acuity.
- Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds free weight.
- Ability to stand and move for long periods of time (6-8 hours).
- Ability to use fingers, hand, reach and bend down (4-6 hours).
- Physically able to manually push/pull bins with wheels or pallets with pallet jack weighing up to 1500 lbs.
- Physically able to push/pull rolling bins of roasted coffee, up a slight incline, weighing up to 1500 lbs.
- Physically able to move pallets weighing up to 1500 lbs, with a manual pallet jack.
**Compensation & Benefits
A reasonable estimate of the starting hourly range for this role is $25 - $31. Please note that the hourly rate will vary based on qualifications, previous experience, and work location.
