About the Department 

 nth Bio, our enterprise biology platform, is the first of its kind to help partners of all sizes join us in creating a kinder, greener future through precision fermentation. nth Bio is focused on piloting and scaling our technology to partners across industries, including food, agriculture, pharmaceutical, biologics, textile, and personal care to create products in a new, sustainable way. 

Position Summary

In this position, you will have responsibilities for developing & implementing strain improvement strategies for producing heterologous proteins, and for engineering strains which will become the workhorse for protein production at commercial scale.

What You Will Do

  • Performs research experiments in collaboration, makes detailed observations, analyzes data and interprets results with other team members for projects allotted.
  • Cloning of desired genes into the plasmids, building the plasmid chassis. Designing primers and routine screening of clones by CPCR.
  • Optimize gene expression technology, growth conditions of microorganisms in microfluidic and other high throughput systems 
  • Routine screening of clones for titer estimation and develop methods for high throughput screening of microbes. Analyze input and output with bioinformatics methods

  • Make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results.

Education, Experience & Other Requirements

  • MSc / M. tech in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Microbial Genetics, or a related discipline 
  • 0 - 2 years’ experience in industrial or academic research is desirable 
  • Experience with fungal or yeast or Bacillus or coli molecular biology 
  • Experience with molecular biology principles required for plasmid construction and design, strain engineering, and gene expression optimization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Bioinformatics skills (Sequence alignments, BLAST, etc.) 
  • Sterile working technique 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Attention to details in experimental operation, lab safety, and documentation 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to adapt and excel in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to trouble shoot problematic situations/experimental events

  • High levels of curiosity and passion to learn new things.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate, troubleshoot, and thrive in a dynamic cross-functional team environment.
