The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and have significant industry experience in the music, media, and entertainment sectors, particularly with a focus on copyrights, music publishing, contracts and agreements. This role demands a superior ability to create, edit and analyze deal documents, ensuring that all investments are protected and optimized for legal compliance and profitability. 

 

What you will do: 

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts and agreements related to our investments in music, media, and entertainment assets.
  • Provide legal advice and support across various aspects of copyright law, music publishing, recorded music, licensing, and intellectual property.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations across different jurisdictions.
  • Work closely with the investment, portfolio and compliance teams to assess legal and other risks and devise strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Stay abreast of legal developments in the music, media, and entertainment industries, as well as related areas such as film, video streaming, and subscriber services.
  • Assist the MD and external counsel with litigation matters as needed, including dispute resolution and copyright enforcement.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel and manage relationships with legal service providers and other partners.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of legal, copyright and/or contracts management experience, ideally in the music, media, and/or entertainment industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of copyright law, music publishing, recorded music and intellectual property issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft, analyze, and negotiate complex contracts and agreements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work onsite in Newark, NJ three days per week (generally Tues, Wed, Thurs)
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school highly desired.
  • Prior experience in Private Equity, Venture Capital or Investment banking a plus.
