Summer Associate

Pendo is looking for a Summer Associate to join our Legal team for Summer 2024. This role will offer deep insight into how an in-house Legal team at a venture-backed, global SaaS company supports all key functions in a fast-growing business, as well as professional development and practical training in technology transactions, SaaS access and use agreements, product and privacy counseling, and legal operations. You will gain on-the-job experience with respect to applicable U.S. laws and regulations such as the FTC’s rules around unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices (UDAAP); the UK/EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Roles & Responsibilities 

Commercial

  • Research and summarize historical contracting terms and practices
  • Help manage the contract lifecycle flow from intake to execution, including maintaining and managing contracts and electronic databases
  • Review, suggest edits, and participate in the negotiation of a variety of contracts, including Non-Disclosure Agreements, Master Services Agreements and related Statements of Work, Data Processing Agreements, and Business Associate Agreements
  • Lead or participate in projects to innovate on internal processes, build for scale, and deploy with speed

Legal Operations

  • #Showmethedata! Pendo thrives on data and so does our Legal Department. You will help build out data insights to our contracts data and other legal work using our tech stack and compile presentations for the executive team and sales leaders 
  • #wintogether! You will work closely with our DPO, Security, Sales, Ops and other stakeholders to help build out our vendor onboarding repository with legal guidelines
  • #biastoact! You will identify opportunities for improvement in our contracts management processes and help to create an even more efficient legal sales cycle for our revenue org and legal team

Minimum Qualifications 

  • J.D. Candidate
  • Based in the Raleigh-Durham area, North Carolina, and able to commute into our downtown Raleigh office (minimum in-office commitment of Tuesdays and Wednesdays)
  • Interest in learning about an in-house legal practice particularly in the technology industry
  • An open and curious mind about an evolving industry, humility, and a terrific sense of humor

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Rising 3L preferred, but rising 2Ls who received an “A” or equivalent  grade in Contracts will also be considered
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Sound judgment even in ambiguous situations

Compensation 

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of many compensation, benefits and other reward opportunities we provide.

The expected hourly pay range for this role to be performed in: Raleigh, NC, $40-$50 per hour.

Individual pay rate decisions, including offers made within and over the expected range, are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company.
