The kind of stuff you'll be doing:

  • Designing and developing new features for our loyalty server stack, which is written in mix of Java and Scala
  • Working directly with the Product team to turn ideas into software
  • Extending and improving existing system services and software components
  • Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks
  • Writing and optimizing SQL stored procedures and functions
  • Writing web pages using HTML/CSS/Javascript
  • Troubleshooting bugs and other technical issues which are too complex or confusing for the Customer Support team to understand, generally involving reading and understanding existing code
  • Working on two to three of our different products: the main server software, iOS, Android, or some of the various point-of-sale (POS) system integrations we maintain

The kind of skills/experience you'll need:

  • Experience writing Java, Scala, C++, or C# code
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with high-volume, high-performance transaction processing systems or other high-performance client-server software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to clearly articulate questions and create design specifications
  • Must be able, periodically, to work outside normal business hours (i.e. early mornings, evenings and weekends) to support critical systems
  • Comfort in both Linux and Windows
  • Facility with version control systems (Git preferred)

The extra stuff that would be nice:

  • Experience with the principles of functional programming
  • Knowledge of C, Python, Objective-C, or Swift
  • Experience with functional and unit testing
  • Reasonable skill with spreadsheets and diagrams
  • Advanced experience with Unix (Linux preferred), including shell scripting and system administration
  • Understanding of web technologies: HTTP, SSL, REST, JSON, XML
  • Familiarity with email technologies: SMTP, SPF, DKIM, etc.
  • Experience with writing HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Experience with Hive, HDFS, MapReduce, Flume or other fancy “Big Data” technologies
